    Pretty far off topic :)
I'm seriously considering getting a 3D printer, does anyone here have any experience/recommendations? The ultimaker2 has been recommended so far.

  2. What do you want to print. It is best to get one that can do two plastics at a time that way you can either do multi colour or using two different plastics you can make moving objects by dissolving one of the plastics after printing.

  4. So much for my advice. :p

You are impatient. But you will have plenty of time to play with it.

The ultimaker has a soon to be released dual head option Tony. One of the reasons for the impatience is because I will have time to play with it over the coming days. I'm not planning on taking any time off work though.

  6. I know why you bought it, good luck on Thursday. I am not up to date on what versions are out there just the technology.

I want one of the ones that allow you to print metal parts. Nut they are expensive and time consuming in comparison.

I take it your sorted with solid works and cura and know what an SDL file is...we have a few at work and are amazing cheap bits of kit...would love one that could produce metal parts but at the moment they are far to expensive...give it a few years and they will be more affordable..

Cura is a great bit of Software Nic.
I don't have solid works, going to play around with SketchUp initially.

I'm not sure we share the same definition of the word 'cheap' though. From a hobbyist perspective the ultimaker2 is a sizeable chunk of cash

Yeah sorry...didn't realise it was for just hobbie purposes. Any cad software will do aslong as you can convert it to an stl file...cura is good to a point...you have to play with some designs as even when you put supports in, it doesn't allways do it right,.,.great fun though..
