So I was undecided on whether to keep the Daytona 765 moto2 GP bike I have on order, or to take potential delivery of a s1000rr m pack... So I went on Tuesday and took out the s1000rr with the dynamic and performance pack and all I can say is WOW! I had it for about 3 hours The bike handles amazingly and the shiftcam technology is sublime, as is the gearbox and that buttery smooth auto blipper. The riding position is spot on, with the wide bars and it tips in just like a 675 but the grunt and torque past 9000 revs nearly took my bent off!!! The dash is beautiful and love the heated grips and cruise, what a blummen bike... The only downside is that is feels a bit cheap, the plastic rear hugger and the side of the tanks plus that awful chain guard and lower faring are nasty, but I assume that is to save weight. But because once BMW have ironed out the production issues, they will be ten to the penny and there will be some good second hand bikes to choose from, I have decided that this is the only chance to own a piece of history....
Fair enough, I have to say when I sat on the one at the bike show I was not prepared for it to feel a bit cheap and that’s what it did. Could look at those carbon wheels all bloody day though
You've highlighted the expensive parts being amazing (suspension, engine etc) cheap parts are cheap......so what I am seeing is BMW have given people a chance to upgrade little bits of the bike like 75% of all owners do anyway. Win win in my opinion. Owners get to show off their extensive knowledge of bikes by buying a new rear hugger and saying how amazing it sets the bike off now to their mates and the real pros at Beemer have sorted the rest. Great decision. Enjoy the M Pack
I'm not sure it's a piece of history but it does look the part I agree. No manufacturer can be trusted as I've experienced first hand as I bought one of the first Graphite 675's early 06 as they would be a limited run etc but success followed and Triumph cranked up the production to match - same could happen here I'm sure.
Bit confused as to your decision? You start off by saying the BMW is amazing except feels a bit cheap, so has that put you off? At the end you say that the BMW will be 10 a penny once issues sorted and that this is your chance to own a piece of history, are you referring to owning the 765 Daytona with the small amount being built ??
Personally I’m not sure it will be the last Daytona. Or at least not sure enough that I would put money down on it. But it will be bloody special and great to ride so fair play
Great choice - will be an amazing bike to ride no doubt, and you can always get some BST’s for it with the money saved on the beemer Make us all green with envy with some good write ups/videos once you get it Delivery is next March isn’t it? Maybe we need to resurrect the forum track day so you can show it off (and leave us all for dust on the straights!)
Congrats on the new bike, theres going to be a few droolers on the forum when it arrives i would imagine.
Does it come with the upgraded led indicators? I saw a few shots of it with stock indicators which is a bit rubbish. Surely a dealer will throw a set in if you are nice to them
