Fork-ing Seals

Discussion in 'Maintenance & Tweaks' started by Jay311275, Nov 28, 2019.

  1. Agree, not a big job at all but nothing is if you know how and have the tools.

  2. Can't disagree with that. There's tons of stuff online to get ideas from, and there's a very detailed how to on triumph675.net

  4. Sure, ship them to Canada with return postage and we're good.

  5. I be done a few pairs on the 675 now, couple of tools from eBay(£30 the pair) and a ratchet strap (seriously..) and it's not a bad job.

Motul Factory light fork oil is the closest to the original spec. Make sure they set your airgap to standard or call MCT and ask what it was set to.

Forget the shipping, excuse for a holiday!

  7. Wouldn't recommend it during this time of year unless you like winter sports.

  9. You can do it at home without any special tools. But a £65 fork spring compressor from Ebay makes it sooo much easier. IMG-20191010-WA0000.jpeg

not sure they will have the details as I bought here in 2010 and it had already been done....

Oh well its with rd-racing now and will end up costing me £250...

You reckon MCT will have the details...?

  11. MCT usually issue a book/card when they complete services or they did when I used them.
You maybe lucky but if it's nearly a decade since they did the work, maybe not.

  15. Did my fork oil last year or year before, got the tool from triumph to help out, it locks the top plastic bit to compress the springs. It didn’t really help that much, was a right PITA.

Was on a tight deadline and don’t think I allowed enough time for the forks to properly bleed.

Also don’t think it was very even when filling to get the air gap.

The ride went to shit and all the settings I got so nicely dialled in went to pot.

Ended up taking it to a garage to get done properly and took em about 2 mins to get the settings dialled back in.

Was reasonably priced but I didn’t get seals done.

After that almighty ball ache I decided I wouldn’t tinker with the brakes or suspension myself.

That’s was while I was using the bike to commute, so the max time I had to turn anything round was 2 days so couldn’t risk it.

Long story short, it’s not “that” hard but it’s easy to fuck it up.

Gotta say though @SW73 6yrs is less time than mine had been between changes but it was worth it, made the front end so much nicer getting new oil. Bad side is I definitely need new springs to cope with my fat arse
