Sad to read today that Hickman and Smith’s Racing will be on a Yamaha R6s on the roads in 2020.

Might be something to do with the age of machines rule for the TT.

Is this the end of the finest sounding road racing motorcycle?

  2. Those new r6’s are very underpowered though?

Spoke to Hickman at the NEC on the Triumph stand - said then they’d switch to the R6 - no more new bikes/race parts left so no option. He didn’t seem too pleased but had to go where the ride/bike is.

Their saying it’s down to a lack of race kit parts that’s caused them to switch

Sadly can't race a bike if you can't find parts.

  6. True, and they are running out of engines to turn into race engines so it’s got to go. Triumph can’t be upset, if they want to play then make the bikes. The R6 will be great, it’s what half the grid are running!

Level playing field if everyone runs the same bike.

  8. It’s not the engines, it’s more the akra exhausts and race kit parts
I haven’t seen a titanium full exhaust system system for sale for years, but every year they pull out a fully specc’d brand new 675R lol

I heard it’s all the euro nonsense that causes the low power figures, with a system and map it’s something like an instant 20+hp

Bloody hell that is a serious power hike just proves how much euro regs suffocate modern bikes.

  15. I imagine we will see the R6 gone completely when Euro5 comes in properly, that was just to get it through Euro4!! 20hp lost all through the mid range, it already had the weakest mid range of the 600’s.

In fairness though hype R6 is a lovely bike to ride as long as you accept its not going to be fast until it’s really revving. It would be good if it had a blipper to compliment the quickshifter

  16. hickys r6 will prob have motec ignition and cammed and ported will make a good 140bhp plus , recon its the lack of new engine availability from triumph thats forced this he,s engines used to built by the late great john trigger, but dont know who,s doing his r6,s

Silly question but with Brexit why will the UK have to be Euro exhaust rated or am I missing something?

  18. Because emissions are a global problem so they ain't gonna go back now.

So you want manufacturers to build specific UK models while the rest of the world attempts to adopt a unified emissions standard...

  20. They do with the US, ie. giving them the bolt in baffle
