Been a sad week or so I have to say.

My Daytona’s check engine light came on after starting her for the first time in a while, P1080, exup, no worries, needs a run out, fairing off, squirt some lube should be ok.

Took her out last Saturday 7th March, got to the end of my road and chaos.

I pulled out to turn right and go up a hill, all normal, as I say it’s the end of my road, next moment at under 5-10mph I’m kissing the road.

Somehow I literally fell over, landed smack on my shoulder, not my broken collarbone side (man hole cover, tyre slip?).

Trip to A&E as I thought I’d dislocated it, 2 xrays, MRI scan and a few morphine shots later, it’s not that.

In true Steve style I’ve half dislocated it in toward my body and I’ve smashed the shoulder socket on the way, ouch.

The Dr’s wouldn’t operate, as it may need replacing during surgery, so 3 days later, yep, 3 days later the specialist has a go at repairing it for me. Socket now held together with a meccano set from the 70’s.

Dr’s pre surgery chat, tbh it’s proper fucked. I wasn’t sure that was a medical term but this is me, they were his words. We may need to replace the whole shoulder, we just can’t tell, you’ll never play golf or squash well again and I can’t guarantee feeling, movement etc, brill!

Operated on and kept in overnight, then sent home.

So, no driving and so no work for 3 months
No lifting a bag 6-9 months
No gym at all for at least 6-9 months.

I can walk or static cycle as long as my arm stays in its sling 24/7

    Jeez.

Therefore my 50th birth year has cascaded to a mess in about 500 meters and 3 minutes.

Selling my Street Triple RX, Daytona 675 (bit marked) and my Boxter.

Can’t drive, let alone ride, so all going.

    Won’t make the Fest either.

I just can’t financially or physically afford another issue, my collar bone aches randomly. I’m sure this shoulder socket on my dominant side will ache too, I’m just hoping it holds together to allow me some normality.

So, that’s my riding motorcycles over with, I’m devastated, but I need to protect me from another bodily pain.

Cheers guys, it’s been fab, stay safe x

First off - that’s awful news, get well soon... that sounds like a very nasty crash indeed. Good luck with the recovery.

If it makes you feel any better, I hit a pothole at 5mph on my bicycle while clipped in and mashed my knee up at the end of January and it’s only just back to normal. Happens oh so easily...

Bones do heal - but life still goes on and bills need paying. Sad to hear you are forced to sell up, but fully understandable given the injuries.

  4. Very sad news indeed mate, bodies heal and so does the mindset.
sadly, it does take longer with age and that's the same for hangovers :)
Good to hear that you are one piece (ish) and I find that doctors estimations tend to be very worst case scenario.
    Onwards and upwards hey...

That’s chuff, on the bright side, although not great for you at the moment, you are still here, I’m sure there’ll be some banter in the coming weeks.

Well.... That's certainly a pretty shit run of luck there.

All I can say is hope you heal up fast and can get back to normal or close enough as quick as possible.

:-?? WOW Steffy, that sounds terrible mate. 0_0

I can only echo what others above have said, I hope you heal well & with a better outcome than you've been lead to expect.

With regards to hanging up your lid & selling the Boxter etc.. I do understand where that's coming from. The only person in the world who truly knows what's best for you is you.
However we only get one go at this existence, & it's important that you don't keep yourself safe at the expense of your happiness imho.

    GWS from Deany & I.

Thank you for all the lovely messages and PM’s

I totally here you and i honestly will hate not having a bike.

But in twenty years time I want to be a able to walk, hold grandchildren and not be in agony.

Selling the car as I have a lovely year old daily driver that’s just as quick, but is comfy and not so firm.

Quite possibly I’ll sell that at some point and just have a sports car, but for now I have a lot of cash tied up in three non essential items and no work for possibly 9-12 months.

So consolidation seems the best bet, who knows in a year.

But for now, that’s me done with my bikes.

Got in from work and started reading your first post waiting for a punch line! Oh fck, sorry to read this is for real Steve.
Life can change very quickly and unexpectedly, consequently you have to make decisions what's best at the time, so selling the toys is understandable.
Hope you can recover quickly without long term issues, though sometimes it might be a long haul.
    Keep your chin up, bud.

Sorry to hear it has to end like that and I hope you get better soon, nothing worse than giving up something you love but your health is your wealth. Sell all you need cars etc will always be around.

    its a sad day
im also getting to the stage when im not sure how much longer ill be riding
sports bike for sure is coming to a end as my hip is real bad after a spirited ride recently
im 52 this year never thought my bones would ache like they do at times
ive always had atleast 2 bikes since I was 16 so to think my biking days may end in the next year or 2 is hard to think about
maybe the old gpz in profile pic might finally get the rebuild I started a few years back before my grandkids came along

Wow, amazing how fortunes can change in the blink of an eye. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Its difficult selling all the things you like and love but life and health is worth more than material things. Yes they made/make you happy, but only for the short term. As you say, long term they could end up causing you more grief and ultimately then not make you happy.

As I said, hopefully you have a speedy recovery. All the best.
