Not much to report on this week, it’s been a bit slow going it’s taken almost as long to cut it down as it did to form the shape but it’s ready for welding now.

It's great seeing this come together...and the skills involved. Top work.

Made some progress today got the first piece tacked on. Right pain in the ass to try and hold it and weld it all at the same time.

It’s coming together nicely now I got the two side on and fully welded on the inside tomorrow I’ll clean the tacks up and put a run of weld on the out side.
Not the easiest thing to weld once both side were on and it doesn’t help that I’m not the best welder in the wold.

  5. Looks spot on! What guage of aluminium are you using? Any idea in the weight save?

Iv used 2mm but I probably could have got away with 1.5.
Don’t know about the weight yet, if anyone has a bare tank kicking around they could weigh we could get a rough estimate of the weight saving.

Got the two sides sown up on the out side and started to clean the out side up, I need to get the top and sides to an almost fished state before I can move on to the underneath in case I need to get a dolly behind it.

Come on use the correct terminology it’s standard wire gauge (SWG) don’t you know.
    14 swg but could have used 17 swg (1.422mm) or 16 swg (1.626mm) ;-)

I did think 2mm is quiet thick the beat into the shapes you have managed to achieve, it is a thing of beauty.

I went with 14 swg ;) because I wasn’t sure how it would stretch and wanted to make sure I ha enough meat left on it.

  10. Looks really good, I will have a bare tank (just waiting on a key to remove the lock) I'll let you know what it weighs.

I'm very impressed with that, are you leaving it bare?
