Option 1 - VW Caddy small panel van
    Option 2 - Mercedes Vito

I know the 2nd will obviously fit 2 bikes in it, but being a tight wad/on a budget (2 trips - £20 extra, plus fuel, extra bridge toll) I was wondering who manages to get all their kit and bike in a Caddy - if at all...

  2. Think I saw someone say they use a caddy maxi with no trouble

Think the small caddy van has a load length of 1.779 and the Daytona is 2.010 long... unless someone says that you can wedge the front wheel in between the seats/at an angle looks like I’ll have to cough up the extra £20...

  5. Just get the Vito. Ok £20 more but how much wasted if you hire a caddy and it don't fit? Then you get the Vito anyways

A daytona would never fit in my Caddy (non maxi) unless it had been totalled first

Thanks guys. Sounds like it’s going to be the Vito option then - unless I can convince the good wife to let me get a trailer and tow bar instead...

They do fit in a Caddy. I remember seeing @wobbley at a few track days with his Caddy stuffed to the gills. :))

Although it appears the bulkhead has been taken out which would give a bit more forward room

Not done personally but, the father in law has fitted a few. Will require the removal and possible modification of the bumper depending on the style of towbar. The instructions should provide details if that is needed. The tricky item can be the installation of the towing electrics, hopefully your will have some sort of loom plug already and waiting at the rear of the car and then its a plug in job, if not then it can be a bit of a pain.

  18. Fitted a couple, Volvo V40, 330D and the GashGuy. All very straight forward, electrics aren't too bad, done the plug and play and the generic ones. Plug and play is worth the extra imo, as it saves a lot of hassle especially on newer cars.

Lol - this is for a 2002 Mini Cooper not an estate or “gash guy”, at least until we swap the family Golf over in June when it’s lease is up.

Plug and play - is that the electrics with the additional relay fitted?

@TripleJimmy - seen I need to take the bumper off, spoke to “Towbars U.K.” earlier and the mechanical side seems straightforward, electrics a little trickier, as you said...
