History of the Triumph Daytona 675

Development (2000-2006)
Triumph started to develop the Daytona 675 in the year 2000 not long after the launch of the TT600. The TT600 was developed to compete with the Japanese sports bike market. It was Triumphs first in-line four cylinder 600cc fuel-injected sports bike. Unfortunately the early TT600’s had rough throttle response and bad fuel mapping. This was fixed in later models of the TT600 however the fix meant the TT600 lost 2-3bhp in the upper portion of the powerband.

It wasn’t long until Triumph decided to move away from the four cylinder market. They looked at their three cylinder T955i, and calculated the weight, engine performance in horsepower and torque to see if they could build a mid-ranged 600cc class motorbike. The figures worked out and in March 2002 the Daytona 675 project moved into the full concept phase.

The Daytona 600 chassis became the basis of development work and Triumph configured the bike to provide better performance than the Daytona 600 and more competitive with the market leaders. May 2003 the newly developed 675cc engine was first tested on a dynamometer, coupled with the new styling a prototype was formed. Testing commenced in 2004.

2005 at the NEC International Motorcycle and Scooter Show the Daytona 675 was officially launched.
