I thought I’d start a new thread rather than comment in the Daytona 765 thread, but I know a few people have been interested so I’ll post this up.

As many know I’ve got a 675R and a 848 Evo and today I went to test ride the V2 In oxford. I’ve had an 899 and ridden 959’s so I’m well used to them, here’s my thoughts...

    - Seat is super comfy, loads of room and the riding position effortless.
    - Brakes are a little wooden tbf, not sure if it’s a Euro 5 thing but they all seem to be going that way
-not sure about the ultimate power compared to the 959 but there is noticeably more midrange and more linear power curve.
    - the switch gear is a big step up, it’s a little thing to some but I noticed it immediately
-it feels incredibly polished, honestly these days you don’t have to make compromises to ride a Ducati
-I didn’t notice any heat at all, others have noted it but in my textiles I didn’t even notice any heat really.

All in all.... I’ve bought one, due in a few weeks!

I traded my 848 though because I can’t part with my 675r, it’s too good for trackdays and having a different engine character in the garage.

    Here’s a crap picture!

Congratulations mate, great to read that you enjoyed your test flight.
You will have to find a more flattering angle though, 'cos your riight.: you've really not done her justice there ;))

  3. Always to get another bike isn't it?
Do you think the rough edges has been polished out, especially the electronics since it became under Audi ownership?
    * The advances in the MotoGP world are massive the past years!

Tbh it’s almost too polished! Honestly it’s just on the right side of retaining that character you want from a Ducati. I’m really pleased bevause now that my commute is 25miles each way I want something which still excites me but also has an element of practicality such as ABS and traction control which the 848 and 675R don’t have.

I’m glad to have decided to keep the 675R as it’s a great bike, at least for now.

Yeah sorry mate, haha terrible isn’t it! I didn’t want to get too much of that hideous rear seat in the shot! Thts going! Have ordered the rear seat cowl. Luckily I had prepared myself for the cost, as it’s basically a complete rear fairing

  6. Good for you on keeping the 675, I have a soft spot for my 400 and 675, I think they are keepers.. for now anyway :)

Congrats Phil, that’s the same test bike I rode. Post up another review of it once you have owned it for a while. Enjoy!

Thanks mate, did you ride it in race mode? Definitely comes alive in that mode.

I’m waiting to find out when my one will come in from Ducati, there were another two there going out so it’s pretty mad how quick they seem to be shifting them!

No it was left in road as it was pretty damp out and the bike only had 140 miles on it. Is it all run in now? When I spoke to Pete Tracey he said if I wanted one he had one coming in a couple of weeks so I assume that’s the one you will be getting?

Not sure tbh mate, sorry if I stole your bike! Haha tbh he didn’t say anything about running it in and I didn’t look at the odometer (my bad, tbh I assumed it was run in) so I rode it fairly hard. It’s MUCH better in race mode, which isn’t what I would normally use, but I would tailor the road profile to have the full engine response with huge tc which makes the throttle feel much nicer.

Are you still a little interested or decided against it?

I was fairly happy with the service, no issues booking it out to me as long as I wanted and he booked it out for my mate at the same time so we could both go and play and swap bikes, a lot of dealers stop that these days so fair play. The upshot is that it’s very likely my mate is buying one in a few months also.

Oh, and I was riding his S1000rr again (gen 2 2015) it’s really a very good bike also, but the V2 is lighter in feel at speed, just feels easier to steer and move around when the speeds get higher

I am still interested as it’s a very good bike but the heat puts me off it as a daily rider during summer. I’m going to hold on to my speed RS and Daytona for this year now and perhaps look again this time next year.

    Happy new bike day!

Will be interesting to hear how you get on with V2 compared to your other Dukes - and what it feels like stepping back onto the 675r when out on track - if missing the tc and other electronics makes a big difference or not.

Enjoy it when you get it home!

The panigale ‘family’ honestly couldn’t be more different from the old long stroke twins like the 848. I mean, many of us have commented on the different character between pre-13 and post 13 Daytona engines and that was about a 2mm stroke difference, imagine between 848 and 899/959 where they are something like 10mm shorter stroke! Also the chassis just so much lighter and easier, that said the 848 is so planted and ‘steady’ and you always feel you have weight on the front which can sometimes not be the case with the older panigales.

I’ll keep you posted, ref the Daytona, tbh it’s closer to the panigale than it is the 848, the only big difference is that the V2 has very wide flat bars and the Daytona’s drop off quite a bit.

Btw I’ve got a few bits from my Daytona I’m going to sell. Will post them up in the for sale. I’ve got a set of arrow rear sets that I’ve taken off it, and loads of bits of carbon etc and spare headlights etc.

Lovely bikes those , I'm a massive Italian twin fan and only the Daytona has tempted me away for a while but I see a red machine coming along in the next couple of years. Keep us posted on your thoughts interested in the comparison between the older duke and the new steed as I've always wanted a 1098/ 1198 corse.

Will do, like I said before the methodology of the panigale range to the 1098/1198 couldn’t be more different, the 848 simply feels incredible on fast smooth roads where you can run sweeping lines and really trust the front. And the older stuff is built like a race bike in a sense where everything comes apart in a decent order and with reasonable ease, except the rear shock which is a pig. I’ll miss it for sure.

I noticed on the V2, and again something I hadn’t expected, that the switch gear is MUCH a nicer than the 1199/959 series, it’s little details I know but adds to a nicer overall experience.

I’ll post up some pics when I get it, will be a few weeks I think as I’m not sure if there are any new ones in the country other than those already sold

Congrats on the new bike. I have ridden the first 848 and loved it and as soon as I got off it I wanted for one reason and another it never happened. I have my super fast 1000cc in my sp2 that’s absolutely lovely to ride look at etc, i again contemplated Ducati but as far as it got.

Fair enough, you really need to ride them for a while to ‘get them’ the older ones are super rewarding but take a lot out of you for that reason, something like the Sp1 while having IMO a stupidly hard seat give a similar sense of stability and character without killing your wrists and shoulders.

I was in agony yesterday after 10 miles, was the first time I’ve ridden the 848 but still! And when I have limited time to get out and enjoy a bike it has to be easier to enjoy in comfort. I’m not ready to go naked yet so I think I’ve found my perfect option

The VTR sp1 is amazing to ride, out on the new Daytona yesterday my wrists hurt after a few miles I put that down to a lack of riding a sports bikes over the winter. Me to I love a sports bike but I can a multistrada/ Africa twin being added in the next few years?

Can you fit flatter bars to the Daytona? That’s the thing for me, the bars drop off a lot, they don’t on the panigale so less pressure on the inside edge of the wrist
