Hi guys, been a while.

Discussion in 'General' started by trackdaybob, Oct 16, 2020.

  1. Not really been here for quite some time. Mainly to do with both the 675's giving me problems then in 2017 I smashed myself up pretty badly (highsiding a CB500 ) at Croft resulting with a broken pelvis and 4 vertebrae :(
So 2018 didn't happen. 2019 I concentrated on the CB500 finishing 7th in the Thundersport GB500 Senior championship and 4th in the NEMCRC 500 championship.
With not much happening this year, I've run the CB at a few trackdays and race meetings doing ok. Then a recent conversation with a friend resulted in a plan to resurrect both 675's. As it happened they both didn't actually need much. A new clutch for the no1 bike probably being the most expensive outlay.
To cut a long story short, I ended up at Cadwell on Monday and Tuesday with the three bikes.

Plan was to run the CB in the wet and alternate the 675's in any dry sessions.

It's October. So the Honda got plenty use as it was a damp start both days and in the afternoon on the Monday. That said I did get both 675's out. No1 was working well. Great to be back out on it although after a few years on the CB, I struggled with the pace. And the braking, my wrists not used to the forces. The No2, whilst running well, I wasn't happy with the steering. Double checking the front tyre pressure to no avail then removing the steering damper completely didn't improve it any so it went back in the van.
This gave me Tuesday to concentrate on the No1. Again a damp start saw the CB get used but by lunchtime it was dry enough to get the 675 out. I got three decent sessions in the afternoon and by the end of the day, whilst not going particularly quick, felt much better on it. Work to do for sure.
All in all just nice to be back on the 675's again after a lengthy period without them.
Now looking at the Thundersport meeting at Cadwell next weekend o_O I'll be there anyways with the Honda.

Welcome back! Love the track day set-up, looks like heaven with the 675's. Do you mind if I use a photo or two on our Facebook / Instagram page? :) Glad to see you're back on the bike since the accident. What doesn't break you, makes you stronger ;) :)

  5. Welcome back! Cadwell has got to be my favourite on the 675, although Donny is a close second!

Forum trackday at Cadwell next year when (hopefully) this has all blown over? You can show us around!

Great to see you getting your mojo back TDB, & the 675s out of their mothballs too.
Iirc you couldn't get on with the steering feel on my bike either. I wonder if perhaps they both have a similar geometry setup that is not quite right in a similar way to each other. ( Put another way, if you figure why it didn't feel right please post up 8-)) ).

  8. My suspicion is the head bearings. I'm taking it to my tame technician tomorrow morning for a look. I'll keep you updated.
