How many people in here had a stator & Reg/Rec simultaneous failure and Triumph have refused to fix it free of charge under goodwill because the bike is out of warranty?

I had this issue the other week and took it to my local dealership, who informed me the other day that Triumph aren't willing to provide any goodwill gesture towards resolving the bike's issues.

I know that Triumph don't have to provide goodwill gestures but given that it seems to be the case that they have, i'm wondering what causes them to decide 'yes or no'.

I'm looking at the wrong end of £500 for parts (inc a new battery) and labour, so i'm not the happiest biker (without a bike) right now

  2. Get rid of it buy a bmw s1000rr

  3. like i said in other thread, battery and reg/rec done on seperate occasions by staffordshire triumph FOC, mines an 06 so well out of warranty and out of dealer warranty as well.

  4. They wanted me to pay £1.08 for three screws that fell out of my seat cowl that is 8 months old.

Made me laugh but also decide that this my 3rd triumph bike will be my last triumph

triumph do seem to be exceptionally inconsistent both with the quality of their products AND their service.

even if i could afford a BMW S1000RR, then i'd probably be too scared of killing myself on it!!! Although they are stunning bikes

  6. Had interesting conversation with a guy the other day that says under some EU directive all manufactured parts now have 6 year guarantee. He was highlighting these car companies offering 5 yr warranties etc. Evidently this is just complying with EU rules. Perhaps worth a google.

If not agree with Farebro and buy a S1000rr :D

I am utterly astounded that in the current economic climate Triumph would dare have such a shortsighted attitude.

The fact that it is a “known issue” is bad enough.!

As soon as any persistent problem like this is identified every effort should be made to :

    Identify the precise cause.
Examine all permutations of corrective procedure.
Then assess those results and implement the very best amendment (not the cheapest or easiest)

If the problem is discovered to be down to poor quality components, then presumably the costs will be past back to that manufacturer/supplier anyway.

If it is down to a flaw in the design, then it should be seen as an opportunity to learn & improve. (Call it customer R&D)

In the long run this will always be the most cost effective action. Because every efficiently resolved complaint is likely to create a brand loyal customer, and any other approach may well result in a the permanent loss of a future customer.
No matter how good your Company or your product, if there is no longer a market for it your business can only fail.

Any vehicle manufacturer that is not pushing to be the very best, will soon loose out. As the global market for “optional expenditure” items is undoubtedly going to continue to shrink for some time yet, and therefore all the existing players must work ever harder to retain their market share.

This applies to “any vehicle manufacturer”, let alone Triumph. They, for historical reasons, need to be seen to be “the best of the best” lest they run the risk of being forever tainted as a Marquee.

Many other bikes do not have this problem, so it is blatantly not insurmountable.!

I believe that “New Triumph” deserve considerable credit for what they have achieved, however if complacency starts to creep into a company it is insidious and contagious. Without intervention it always has rapid and devastating results.

Im with st marks and a few other comments reg/rec is well known world wide it should be courtesy it looks more of a design fault rather than a batch. On my 06 daytona 3 months out of warranty the cat melted with the first valve service due triumph replaced it foc and charged me basic service cost that was at Robinsons in Rochdale and they didnt have the best reviews even gave me a tuono to play with for a week.

  9. Look anyone who thinks that triumph are worse at warranty or out of warranty work has obviously never had experience with a ducati! they are notorious for stuffing customers around. it is in the end at triumphs discretion to fix the problem! yes i know it is a known problem but they have a stated warranty period and as such i do believe they are not liable. my question is are you sure that the dealer or service department has even contacted triumph as sometimes a dealer really cannot be bothered. ring triumph directly or send an email directly to triumph, the details are on the website, then hopefully something will get done about it. i mean look at the RSV4 aprilia. major Rod problems from launch, yes aprilia fixed it with engine replacements, but now i have heard that the RSV4 is prone to oil leaks.

When mine went I spoke to triumph directly and they refused to accept that it was a known problem!

    I share your pain brother.

What you have to decide is what type of bike can you afford/do you really want to ride? All manufacturers have their good and bad moments!

By phoning triumph directly you will be able to check on the dealer at least!

Hope you get some customer satisfaction.

You actually kinda makes my point R devil. ;)
I bet most of us find at least one of the bikes in the Ducati Stable appealing. But I’m pretty certain that I’m not going to be the only one on here who wouldn’t actually buy one for exactly those reasons.
If Triumph are to continue to prosper, then they need to be considered on a par with Honda for quality & reliability, Not Ducati//Aprilia.
A good reputation takes a huge amount of effort & investment to create and maintain, but almost nothing to destroy.
And denying that the problem even exists certainly smacks of complacency to me!

  12. I had a Ducati 916 Biposto for 14 months (all be it 12 years ago), and that killed 2 reg/rect.'s. Wheras the '08 Daytona that I have had for 3.5 years, has only gone through two (one replaced under warranty). So Ducati isn't necessarily any better!

just sent an email expressing my disappointment etc etc....

I accept that things go wrong on bikes but my issue here is that

    a) the OEM reg/rec is crap
    b) Triumph's goodwill appears to be issued on an ad-hoc basis and surely by extending it some cases but not others with the same faults/circumstances is just crap!

i'll start saving for my s1000rr in the meantime!

  14. Mate has just written to Triumph about lack of goodwill with a fault on his Tiger.

He finished the letter and i quote

"very much looking forward to your response with regards to this persistent issue. In the meantime could you tell me where the BMW stand will be at this years NEC show ?"

  17. Now you're just showing off - I didn't even get screws with mine!

I hope you reminded them that Suzuki has just done a full R/R replacement recall on bikes that don't have half the number of blown R/R's that they do.
