Well,I have had a 675 since 2007. I've had a scorched yellow and then got a red in 2009. Love the bike to bits, but it kills my wrists so I have decided to sell up. I have tried techpsec pads, helibars, but it does not help that most of my riding is two up. So, the question is, what do I replace her with? I have test rode a new Speed triple and a Street triple R. Loved them both. Speed is so comfy and has oddles of power and torque, which I think will suit me for the two up stuff. Street was like a moped on steriods, its great fun, possibly too much fun, and you do have to work it a little bit more (its still bloody quick, just rode it back to back with the Speed). I was going to test ride a new RSV4 Tuono but the dealers have not got a demo bike and I am not going to spend over 10k on a bike I have not ridden. Any suggestions or ideas? I am 90% sure I'm going to stick with a triple.
Well to be honest D41 I have not had the best of luck with my second 675. New cylinder head as it had a pin size hole in it which ended up with oil on the back tyre, two regulators (the second of which left me with no bike on the IOM in TT week), but there is something to do with the triple character I love. But to answer your question, I dont mind working on bikes, but I would prefer not to have to on a brand new one ! And I take your point.
Mick (Kingfixer) on here had a dreadful experience with his RSV4....another lad on Tankslap fared the same with his Tuono....dealers in the US are dropping Aprilia franchises like no tomorrow....horrible reliability, service, etc., and sourcing parts is a nightmare.....really poor state of affairs.
Saw this thread so thought I'd try posting. I changed from a Daytona 650 to a street triple R a year ago and haven't looked back. I test rode a standard street, then a speed triple, then the R, as well as a kawasaki z750, and an er600f. Sports bikes wise I tried an 09 Daytona, my friend's zx636 which was good but difficult to handle position wise, a zx10r (fantastic bike but too much for me), and a ducati multistrada just to mix things up a bit. I loved the triple engine so much I got the R. I wanted the better brakes and found the handlebars were more to my liking. The ride position is great for me being on the shorter side (1.73m) and I like the idea of adjustable and better quality suspension (even though I've not adjusted it much away from stock). Reliability wise, my only problem so far has been the reg/rect, which Triumph replaced under warranty for one of the new ones - was yours a newer one that broke on the 09 Daytona? I would suggest that if you loved your old Daytona, the street r offers 90% of the same bike, but more useable on a daily basis, more usability through towns, and if you go for a pre 2011 model, some ability to transfer extras across, for example the quickshifter etc. That said, if you have some GBracing covers going, I've been looking for a set...
Old v2 Tuono? I rode the Falco for 3 years and 25k miles with a massive grin, reliability was good but if something was to go wrong, good dealer support wasn't easy to find. If you like the triples so much and are looking at nekkids... speed triple?
M_101, my first reg was the old style (99% sure of this), but it is in the new posistion, under the fairing infill. Secon one looks different but not like the one off a brand new tona. I believe on the new models they are mosfet items. I'm going to go for a test ride on both of them again with my missus on the back to see what its like. Shame about the Tuono, but D41 has sort of confirmed what I had already heard. Not got any racing covers sorry, I will put my list in the for sale section when I have got all the bits off.
