Havn't owned one only ridden one. A 650 with 6000 miles on the clock . Brakes were good, handling was good. Gave me the impression I was going faster than I actually was. I think fours do compared to triples. Engine and frame finish had suffered, could have been through some salty winters though.

I used to have a 650, I chopped it in for the 675. Handling was fantastic. The only bad thing I can remember is that the rear seat was a bugger to get off. But it's a bit like when someone dies, you usually only remember the good things about them and not that they were a complete shit.

D41 has a 650, I'm sure he'll be along soon to give you a lowdown.

  5. i recently had a d600 the main problems were reg recS again mine luckily never had this problem ,corroded foot pegs and hangers other than that i loved it i would definatly have another for the track go well stop well drop the forks 5mm and play with the suspension settings a bit and itl corner like its on rails also gear down to 14 47 hooweee ,not quite in the same league as the 675 but still a hell of a bike

Whoopee!!....a thread tailored just for me!!

Okay, so I don't have a D600, I have a D650, and the wife has a Speed-Four....they are all essentially the same bike as the D600, as is the TT600. As Redmist just mentioned, a few have had rect/reg problems....Rickster had more than most, as he has mentioned in the past....From what I gather, though, this problem has STILL not been fully rectified (no pun intended) on the 675....oddly enough, I don't recall any D650's suffering from this issue.

.....It's a BIG bike...seat-height is a fair bit lower than that of the 675...but the tank is absolutely massive, and the seat itself is rather wide...especially when compared to that of a 675 (I'm making deliberate references to the 675, as that is the bike you yourself own, and can relate to better). The shocks aren't the current trendy "upside-down" type...but they are a good, solid Kayaba unit...very capable kit.

Another common "issue" is the front brakes...they're simply not very good. More than a few owners have first resorted to switching out the brake-lines for braided versions....not worth it..the D600's lines are ALREADY braided..but then coated in a plastic cover which disguises that fact. The better alternative is to switch out the master cylinder to either a Brembro unit, which can be a bit spendy, or an '07 M/C from an R1...I took the latter route & the difference is phenomenal!!

Another "quirk" is that, if left out in the rain, water can collect in the spark-plug area (under the tank) and foul the #1 plug.

All-in-all though, I'd have to say that they are a first-rate bike...a bit old to be sure, but nonetheless a very capable & competent machine. I have no idea of your brother's biking experience...but, assuming he is a beginner, the D600 is a little less "hard-edged" than the 675...something that he can "grow with" over time, and won't spit him off if he makes an error. The D600.org site just closed last Tuesday, but almost everyone from there has since moved to http://www.tankslap.co.uk ...a whole wealth of information regarding the D600/D650 is available over there, from members far & wide.

    HTH.

Nice one Darren my brother is 6'1 and goes about 15 stone so the 600 sounds perfect fit wise. I'll pass that on, thanks

Is the bike in question private or from a dealer?

Ok I'd like to post on this too, I am 5' 8 and average build with my winter coat on! As above petrol tank is huge between my legs, all the reviews of buying used say check clocks as they fail. My mate had a yellow 650 must admit I have a soft spot for them 600 is a bit shy on power, but it's clearly horses for courses! As long as it's tidy, service history and looks like it should, not left out in rain and rusted as these were a bit prone to average buil quality I'm sure it will be fine for him to get back into biking with. Red or yellow? I love both, quite fancy a 650 yellow as a track?!? Posted on my I phone, must get the tapa talk thing!
