Well - I’m a week into a new bike ownership so time for a report...

After riding the BMW S1000rr at Philip Island for two days in March 2019 (week before lockdown) - I had my head turned by the extra bhp, the traction control and the electronics - but I also realised that a 190mph closing speed would not end well on the road...

So I’ve been looking and making offers on Aprilia Tuono’s since May... basically an RSV4 with wide bars (does it turn...) and a little off the top end. The seller dropped my 2018 Tuono Factory off with me on Sunday and I’ve now done 3 rides/500 miles on it and wow, what a bike!!

All the things that made the BMW epic are on the Tuono - but it just handles so easily into/though/out of the corners and with a far better soundtrack (now the baffle is out) - V4 plus autoblipper is a higher form of aural delight Also fitted a tail tidy/new plate, bar end mirrors - just needs stomp grips now and she’ll be finished

I’ve still got my trusty 675r - but sadly it will be going for sale at some point. Needs the valve clearances, some of my tasty extras stripping off the bike for individual sale and an mot end of August before the bike can be sold, so realistically it’ll go end of spring next year. It’ll be sad as that’ll be 11+ yrs of 675 ownership - but garage space and finances dictate I won’t be keeping both... as much as I know I’ll miss her heaps and it’s been a tortuous decision to move on.

Just came back from a 350 mile ride today with another 675.cc member on his lovely Panigale crisscrossing the borders and a loop of mid wales (thanks Hugh) and the Tuono does not disappoint at all - maybe it could do with a fuel gauge though!

The slimline 675r still looks tiny and svelte next to the wider Tuono in the garage - bit like Kylie standing next to Kelly Brook size wise

Congratulations on the new steed mate, I hope she proves as enjoyable as the spec's would suggest. :))

  3. O you lucky Ba***rd. sorry bit harsh but I have been lusting over one of these since I took one out in 2019. I love that sound track and the performance. Massive congratulations and enjoy. Said the green eye’d monster

  4. Congrats, sounds like you're loving the new bike but I know how tough it'll be to get rid of the 675R, I'm still hanging on to mine even though I don't ride it often enough since buying the Thruxton.
100% agree about the sound, to my ears nothing beats a V4 Aprilia with Akropovic & link pipe.:bang:

Thanks all - it really is epic and there really isn’t much left wanting on it - fuel gauge aside

I tested a 2020 end of May and the electronic öhlins didn’t take my breath away and didn’t like the Matt black paint scheme

    - so I went for a 2018 model bike in Silver/Superpole colour scheme instead - still got very plush Öhlins suspension and comes with all the other electronics/toys on it.

I know it’ll chew tyres and need specialist servicing compared to the 675r, but it’s something worth living with in this instance. Don’t try one if you really don’t want to be buying one...!!

Yep - late seaside lunch at PD’s in Aber before heading back east via the Elan Valley - good spot Stu

The Tuono’s really are cracking do-it-all bikes, coped very well with all types of roads/speeds and felt relatively fresh after my day out. Would love to take her round Portimao, but might have to settle for Donington or Anglesey next year

We were there the week before you on our world tour of Wales and England summer holiday.

  10. Tuono then? A wise choice sir.
They are awesome. I fancy one myself.

Thanks TDB! I imagine it’s just like some sort of futuristic CB500, but on a serious dose of steroids - until I get overtaken by a CB500 into McLean’s that is...

  12. Lovely mate! I test rode the RSV4 in 2018 and honestly it blew my mind. What an engine! Been very tempted also! Have just changed my V2 for the F3 and had a really good trackday last week on it so it will stay for a while before I’m tempted by the Aprilia

I actually saw these in Peter Stevens in Adelaide back in Feb 2020... so I blame them for starting my interest in Tuono’s. Circle is complete, as the Cagiva Mito on display in PS Melbourne (and the persuasive Saleswoman) got me into biking back in 2007

Glad you had a good time - hard not to at Donington imo , love it there. The F3 is a very nice bike, but I didn’t think it was quite enough of a “jump” from the 675 for me to look at... As they say, power corrupts and I’ve been corrupted by the power (and sound) or the V4...

Congrats.... bike looks superb! - not a full-on race replica, nor a fully stripped-down naked....just a nice middle ground between the two.

  17. It’s probably a smaller step that is is from the 800 on to the Tuono granted, god you are enjoying it

    Tuono is smart!

Sorry to be a vulture, but I’d be interested in the 675R, as I’ve been looking for one for a while now!
