I've been looking at a couple of different options regarding exhausts for my 675R Track bike but I'm concerned about noise I don't really want to be in a situation where I'm struggling to get through noise testing and having to run at baffle all the time. The exhausts I'm looking at are Titanium Scorpion with or without Decat headers, or a MHP special. Does anyone have any DB readings for the different types of set up. MUST BE FOR A 13+ bike not the underseat. Thanks
Readings from people can only be used as a (really) rough guide. There are so many variables to take in to account when noise testing that the same bike can record differing results, even on the same day. Easily by 2-3 db's. As the scale is logarithmic, not linear this represents quite a difference. So somebody saying "my XXXXX exhaust measures xxx db's" only really means that that was what it recorded that particular time and should you fit the same exhaust there's no guarantee you'll get similar results every time you test. FWIW I've a full Arrow system on one bike which records anywhere between 99-104 db's and the other bike has decat headers and Scorpion can which usually records 101-105 db's. I've heard good things regarding MHP. Quiet and doesn't kill the power like my baffle does if I have to fit it
Thanks for the reply I understand that there are lots of variables that can affect things but I'm trying to get the best idea possible before I spend out. On another note you scorpion with the decat was the 101-105 with or without DB KILLER if without what was it with.
That's without baffle. I have failed and passed testing at Snetterton and Oulton (102db limit) without a baffle fitted. If it does fail, the baffle always gets me through but it does kill the performance and I suffer massively on corner exit. It doesn't just pick up and go like it does when the baffle isn't fitted. I dare say with some dyno work I could make it better but I've never felt the need. I just don't go to Snett or Oulton as much.
100% agree tdb above, my 13 without baffle 124bhp at Cartagena it was mega done snetterton after didn't even risk it without baffle 112bhp and the pick up was well down
Can't let this go I'm afraid, you are suggesting a 12hp difference from fitting a baffle? And your also comparing 2 different dyno readings from different dyno's in different countries? I'm sure there is a difference, but but it will be 2-3hp which an experienced rider (which I know bob is as I've seen him ride) could feel and I'm sure u can but the average guy, not so sure. Anyway on topic, I've always heard good things about the scorpion for noise, my arrow was right on the limit even with baffle!
I have a dyno sheet to prove it Phil, and 100% could feel the difference with and without. Not two different dyno readings in two country's I rode the bike for 3 days in Cartagena without baffle bike pulled and exited corners faster felt crisp on the throttle. Fitted baffle done a uk track and even I could feel the difference. The bike had a custom map with pc5 and a separate switch for number 2 map to use with baffle. The 12 bhp lose was at peak performance
Custom made from a zx10 acra. Noise is a huge concern here in Sweden. Got 124bhp open and 120bhp with baffle. Using the bazzaz and map switch for both my dyno sorted maps. Below 95db at local track with baffle and 97-98db without.
For me it's more about the throttle response with the baffle fitted. The bike just feels flat when you open the throttle from the apex of a corner. That 'pick up an drive' that the bike is really good at mid revs is gone for me Saying that, I'd rather be riding round with a baffle than not at all. Noise regs are only going to get tighter as far as trackdays are concerned. Thankfully race meetings are still 105db's so I can let the bike fly there
