Hi all. Long time no see, but looking forward to see you at the Fest.
@treesr 's 765 street triple R 2018 has decided to refuse to start. It was working on Sunday but the next day it wouldn't start. Nothing happens when you press the starter, so it's like a safety cut out that's preventing it rather than the engine turning but it doesn't catch. Does that rule out the Crank Position Sensor as a culprit? I seem to remember that when that fails, the engine turns over but doesn't catch, is that right? Anyway I lifted the tank but couldn't find the white connector to test like on the 675 https://www.675.cc/675/threads/puls...rank-position-sensor.20693/page-2#post-408875

Kill switch - on the 765 that is now the same as the starter so pressing the starter switches off the kill switch.

Clutch lever - it does have aftermarket levers, but set to farthest out, pulling in the clutch clearly releases the switch which makes a click (and the levers have been on for a while)

Side stand - tried starting in neutral with side stand up and clutch in to no avail.

Battery is decent and confirmed with optimate charger

Any ideas how to test further and/or identify the culprit? Many thanks.

Have you checked the battery does has enough charge with a multimeter?
If it is not charging, then it may have had enough in it to run the injectors/ecu etc when you stopped before, but now not enough to start.

I have had duff batteries which appear to be fine when on charge with optimate, but dont actually hold a charge.
But then, i would at least expect an initial burst from the starter.

Isn't there a starter relay, do you hear a click when you press the starter button?
Also isn't there a big fuse for it too?

Fwiw my thinking was also the starter motor relay, either that or one of the safety circuit switches has stuck (I'm thinking stand switch being most likely).

Thanks both. It actually started again, after a bit of a fiddle with the fuses, none were broken, and a recharge of the battery. And it ran for a few days fine. But after the horrendous rain yesterday it refused to start again today.

So the starter relay, can you tell me more about that please? The only click I get seems to be the actual starter switch itself.

Update: did some things today :D
Thought you might be on to something here, despite leaving it on optimate for several days and then disconnected a few more, it was reading 12.33V (I don't trust the absolute values of my multimeter, but it's good for relative values). So jump started it off my bike (running) and it fired straight up! :D
Charged again on optimate, after it had gone green, would not start. So swapped the batteries, and still my bike starts but not @treesr's.

Next job is swapping the Starter solenoid, on another day

too be honest i think 12.3 is low
ive found modern batteries require more like 12.5 and when healthy they read more to 12.8
