Just back from my first race weekend at Oschersleben in Germany, really fun and demanding track.Went with the ambition of learning the track and not coming last, both of which went well. Came in 8th in race 1 and 6th in race 2.The guys ahead were much faster but next year….. At the meeting was a German Triumph racing round, great to see hear so many Triumphs on the track.Really friendly people and some very fast riders(well much faster than me). Here’s some pics of cool German Triumph race bikes.
Awesome result, for a first time at a new track... Fwiw it takes me at least a full day to even start to "get the gist" of any new track, so achieve that is very impressive indeed Nik.
Thanks very much St Marks.Did my homework on the track before going with plenty of YouTube films and print outs of the track layout. The real learning happens on the tarmac itself though of course.
That is brilliant Nik, good on ya, did you go over with any help or literally on your own? Great work either way, how many were in your class?
Thanks Dan,there weren’t as many as usual that weekend.Normally +/- 35 on the grid but this time only just over 20. As with all my race weekends I put the bike and the rest of my gear in the back of my van( my Vw transporter) and drive to the track.I usually sleep in the van too which I always sleep really in.Keeps it all affordable. Looking forward to next season where I will be trying hard for some wins.
Nice one Nik, still a bloody good effort, as StMarks says, learning a new track is usually a days job from what I've seen, so you did well. I'm same, bike in the back of the van, although I have just purchased a cheap caravan ready for next year if I decide to do some race weekends. Good luck next season.
Cheers Dan, Hope you put your caravan to good use next season mate.I might splash out on a race tent for next season just for the shade in the summer.Let us know how it goes if you go racing.
