I picked up this 2012 Street Triple R yesterday.

It's been stood under a cover for at least 12 months, so is showing some ravages from that.

But more fundamentally it has a broken engine. I was told it was head gasket and when it fires up (which it does easily), there is water leaking somewhere under the engine. When you rev it, it is actually firing water out of the left hand exhaust pipe!! Quite dramatically.

I have a spare engine sat in the garage, which came out of a race bike some years ago. Sigma slipper clutch, mildly tuned and a BDK generator on it.

So the plan, when time allows, is to do a bit of a restoration and repair job.

Does sound like a leaking head, the fact that it fires up despite that suggests that the engine itself may be pretty sound.?
Striking livery.. Someone has loved it, nice silencers, best protection, discs etc don't look abused etc. Bit of tinkering & it could be a sound little bike without a dramatic project imho, but that all depends on what you want from it I guess.?
    Enjoy.!

Sounds like a sexy engine to put into the striple.Should surprise a few folks when you smoke em leaving them behind at the traffic lights.
Good look with the swap mate

    Thanks Nik.

Progressing slowly with it, being under a cover near to Land's End for a good while has done it no favours.

Luckily I have a reasonable stash of spare parts to hand!

I suspect what you call a reasonable stash means an Aladdin’s cave to most of us on here,Sure or your other half has other adjectives to describe your “stash”.
Has the sea air had an adverse impact on the bike?
I live by the sea myself and any bikes left outside soon start to show it.

Unfortunately that is the case - some of the fasteners, the chain, calipers and exhaust headers are all suffering from the salty sea air. Nothing too dramatic (so far).

Hope that some patience, wirewool, and or scotchbright do the trick.Buying new fasteners can be quite pricey, unless you have a good stash in the garage of course.
Is the engine from a Daytona or street??
    Keep us posted Colin.

The engine I plan to use is ex-Daytona.

  9. I love the way that you just happen to have a whole new engine knocking about in the garage. I'm lucky if I can find a spare cable tie.
