Right for months I have battled with the standard suspension on my 675 and as I find my pace increasing I am struggling like hell.

I am 11 st roughly give or take. At first the suspension wasn't bad when I was just playing at track days but the faster I get the harder I have to work, and I mean coming in exhausted. I physically have to force the bar in to get it to turn. Before I was getting moderate to decent lean angles, knee down stuff. If im pushing up im practically falling off the bike sideways and it seems bolt up right.

I loosened the rear shock off to have a decent amount of sag, but I couldn't ride in that position, it lowered it causing me to be cramped within minutes. To make it work with riding position I have to adjust it so it has less than 1" of sag. Its like a concrete slab.

Now, I know I need new springs for my weight. The front I suspect just a set of k-techs, what are the advantages of a piston kit.

as for the rear, its pretty obvious I need a new rear spring. but is the standard shock up to it.

are there any lighter riders out there who had this problem

can you also give me a rough price.

I don't want to go mental im no where near racing standards but I want something I can use on the track

  2. I look forward to the replies to this thread as I'm interested in suspension mods too

I didnt even adjust mine from my road settings yesterday, i probably should have tried the soft/hard settings Triumph give just to see what effects it gave

Have you ever paid any of the trackday suspension support people to adjust the settings for you? - i was considering that next time round

  3. have a word with the suspension guy at your next TD.

having them set it up for you and then work with your feedback after every session really helps.

knocked 5 secs a lap off my times at Donnigton by getting it done.

done the last time at croft, I need new springs at the very least. I have played with it for months and its just getting worse the faster I get.

  5. I raced with a standard rear shock set up as best as I could and didn't have any problems worth mentioning. It was good enough to be under the 1:40's at Cadwell Park. At one very brief point, I was in the 37's
However I am using a recently serviced WP rear and K-Tech front end this year and so far it does seem to be working better even though I'm not going very fast yet this year

Ok so the shock is up to the job

    I just need correct springs.

Another guy on a similar forum raised a good point. The previous owner might have put on a stiffer shock.

I test rode a daytona and it handled like a house fly. I've had problems from day one with this. I need a new spring as I can't get enough sag on my rear as it's at the top of the thread so it could be a case of just getting new springs for my with.

speak to the experts and see what spring rate they recomend and start from there
forum advise will just have you going round in circles

  8. I can't speak for racing but I had my forks rebuilt on my 2010 Daytona and had 0.95nm linear springs put in rather than progressive. I also used k-tech 20ssk piston kit and noticed a massive difference in quality of the stroke.

For racing or lots of trackdays there is the 'ssrk' range of piston kits which are much more track focussed and would avoid on the road.

I also ran a 105nm (10.5kg) rear spring on my Ohlins but I am more like 13.5 stone.

  9. I am just under 12 stone so not far off where you are. whilst the rear is too hard for my weight, it certainly isn't like a concrete slab. On fast roads it is ok once you load the thing up. Sounds like the spring has been changed. I had my bike setup last year and they thought the standard shock was good for most riders.

  10. I think the standard spring rate was always about right but the issue I had was the damping quality, or lack of, I used to be out the seat a lot on my 2010 and it would always be in scary places like going into a corner so the front had more weight on it. It knocked my confidence!

I am in Scotland atm and the acid test for whether my 675R Ohlins is good on bumpy roads has just happened, compared to my Ducati on the same roads last year I'm doing twice the mileage in a day at faster pace and loving it, and my Ducati was about comparable with my stock Daytona. Tbf the front suspension was always pretty good
