Textile winter jackets - recommendations please?

  1. My Wolf Titanium seemed to handle the ride to Scotland with 80 miles of torrential Motorway miles, but I did stop and put on my berring over-suit which is the best £45 I have ever spent.

If you need it to be guarantee'd you need to go Goretex, personally I think if you buy cheap you buy twice. My kit was about half the price of Rukka but my mate has washed his and it now leaks even after he followed the instructions, the Rukka stuff is guarantee'd for 5 years and they even supply loan kit to dealers.

Personally it's a no brainer for me, but the Dainese kit looks impressive also. Up to you, if you are on a budget then consider the Wolf gear, mine is still waterproof but it is not goretex. It is however got Outlast in it which is really good for variable temps.

To be honest mate the Gericke jacket I bought when I first passed my test has served me really, really well for the money (was around £200-250). I’ve used it in all conditions, for over 4 years, all year round, almost every day and its only now starting to look a bit tired.

The RST trousers on the other hand are fucking useless. I had to pop out Sunday in the rain and by the time id got to the cash machine a few hundred yards up the road, I had a wet arse and thighs.

I have got one of them A* el nino rain suits which are amazingly water tight but make you sweat a lot if you’re putting it over other bike gear in the summer - plus, if I shell out for waterproof gear I expect it to be, erm, waterproof and not require further waterproofing by another brand.

    doesnt it just

funny as i was only saying to steff on the ride out on sunday what a fucking daft place it was to put a zip ( its down the back of your calf)

i wish these manufacturers would stop trying to be so clever and just make a proper bit of kit, absolutely bored to the back teeth of not getting what ive paid for and its not exactly rocket science

if it makes you feel better, my rukka gloves have been replaced, my rukka trousers had to go back, and my rukka jacket had to go back.
the trousers leaked a very tiny amount during a 90 minute downpour (enough to cause a small damp patch, but a leak is a leak),
the jacket zip started to come unstitched at the bottom.

however, for the jacket and trousers, they only went back after a temporary replacement had been sent to use while they were away.

so sometimes, it doesnt matter what price the gear is...

  18. Thats shite. It's probably a bad pair. I've ridden in with my carvemaster and streettracker trousers this morning in torrential downpour and dry as a bone!

I think you might be pushing it to expect an outside pocket to be waterproof.
But it certainly doesn't bode well, think I'd be looking to start again from scratch.
