Thundersport GB 500 Mallory Park 22-25 June.

Discussion in 'Bobby Campbell Racing' started by trackdaybob, Jun 19, 2017.

  1. I'm off Mallory on Wednesday as the practice day is on Thursday then we can relax on the Friday and race Saturday + Sunday.
Looking forward to it. Never raced at Mallory before. In fact I've only ridden there once before. Back in February and it snowed

  2. Test day yesterday was very beneficial. Was going ok by end of the day.
Reviewing my footage today highlights my weakness exiting Edwinas so I'll have to improve there in qualifying tomorrow.

Scrutineered and all ready. New tyres too ;)
    Qualifying is at 10.

  3. Have a good un mate!

  5. Very nice and useful as I'm attending a TD school there next month with JW (if he's fully recovered)
I needed some week day sessions and Mallory / Castle Combe fitted the bill.

:-?? Maybe he was riding as though there was snow on the track.?

My noise testing sticker was covering up my number. Apparently. It had been fine all day up to that point

  10. Looking back it was a good meeting. The test day certainly helped me out for sure. Was up to a reasonable pace going into qualifying.
I qualified 25 from 46 with a 1:01.749. I was expecting to find a little more time come the races.
This put me 22nd on the grid in my first race then 8th on the grid for my second race.
I finished 23rd in race one then 6th in race two. Then I had the small matter of the Military Championship race. Got a great start and soon found myself dicing with the only other CB500 in the race. Right up until I was taken out by some chump who can't overtake into the Hairpin. Keeping the bike upright meant I could continue but as the tow was (long) gone I pulled it up and chatted to the marshalls.

On Sunday rain was threatening. As it happened just before my race. We threw the wets in but it was half and half in hindsight. A shitty start in damp conditions saw me wobbling around for a lap and a half until a melee at Edwinas saw me punted straight on. As I looked to rejoin I discover I'm dead last and the crowd disappearing round the Hairpin. So do I fuck up a set of wets on a rapidly drying track to finish last? Or pull in and have a cup o tea?

    I had a cuppa.

Second race was a belter. From 15th on the grid I battled up to 8th. Alas a mistake on the last lap cost me two places so 10th it was. Good end to the weekend.

I was flying on the test day doing consistent 55's
Then last session the engine went bang in a big way
Borrowed a bike so got back out there but never got back into the 55's!

  12. Hey good going. Shame about the motor. Will you make Rockingham??

    Thanks Peter.
I'm up East Fortune 15-16. Pop in say hello if you're about.
