When should I replace my lid?

I read somewhere they recommend changing your helmet (ahem) every 5 years regardless of use and every 3 years if used regularly eg commuting every day.

 

I've kept my Aria for ages.
Probly because I don't use other than weekends.
Looked after it properly.
I think the lazer flip I just bought might be a long term lid too.
The ones I use for the work commute only keep a year.
