Decided to paint my rear subframe and after getting the paint i wanted i started prepping/painting it today (Saturday 14/12). For some reason triumph went with a greyish silver for the subframe of the Diablo red 2013, a completly different silver colour than the eyelids/ intake frame with a darker dull tone. After painting the other silver parts black the subframe looked out of place imo so why not paint it ? The dupont Triumph DR matched pretty good, a smidge brighter but once it's all dry and cleared it will match allmost perfectly . Masking threads and prepping the surface for paint, just sanding down the oem paint slightly. No primer is needed since there's no bare metal parts: After 3 coats of DR : After a few days the colour has darkened somewhat and when compared to the stock rear fairing pieces they're pretty close : Will leave this to cure properly for a week and then wetsand/clear with 2k clear, wait another week and wetsand with 2500 k paper and polish with Meguiar's Ultimate compound. Getting twill carbon inserts from Jacques @ http://www.carbonfbr.com instead of the ugly plastic ones. More updates to follow .
Got a few pics of the inserts, he will have one additional set in stock beside the set i'm getting. Pretty damn sexy.
Cleared with 2 component clear, very durable and resistant to gasoline etc. Very satisfied with the result, wetsanded with 2500k before laying 3 coats of clear. Normally you would wetsand and polish to a shine in the final stage but i don't need to now tbh.
Haven't got the carbon inserts yet, they are much easier to install before putting the subframe back on the bike. Will post pics when it's done. Yea on the bike This is Diablo red and not Carmine red like the R, i'm not trying to make a R copy or something, quite the opposite. I did this since the grey stuck out like a sore thumb and i wanted the subframe to match the rest of the bike. There's no logic in Triumph's colour scheme for the red standard bike, on both the black/silver and white/blue bikes the subframe matches the bellypan, so why on earth they chose matte grey on the red one is beyond me. Black would have been the logical choice but personally i like the idea of the red after seeing the red revolution racing bike. I actually don't like the red subframe on the R, granted it's a feauture of the R but it also doesn't match anything on the bike.
Yea the ohlins/brembo stuff is nice, however i can't ride my bike fast enough to need them and i didn't want a white bike.
Got some of the carbon stuff in the mail today, still missing the front fender + a few more random bits that i haven't quite decided on yet. No time to fit them all and re-assemble the rear subframe until this weekend so here's a preview : Thanks to Jac @ carbonfbr for getting the stuff to me fast and being a great guy to deal with ! Hugger: Fairing inserts: Chainguard (upper) : Chainguard (lower) : Subframe inserts: Looks damn sexy if i may say so
Really like the subframe inserts does the sub frame need removing to fit these?? I would also like the tank in fills I have these on my speed triple they look the tits.
Wow.....that transforms the 2013 model. Plus it's so cool it now floats through the air. I think the 2013 doesn't look quite as good in road trim as the previous model. However, in track-trim, I actually think it looks better than it's former models in their track-trim. I haven't quite worked out why just visually it seems to work more.
It can possibly be done without removing the subframe, i did it because of the paint job so i already had them off the bike. The fit of them isn't perfect though so some trimming might be needed, i had to modify the pins slightly and secure them with glue. The CF is much stiffer and less pliable than the oem plastic parts.
