    So, here's a question...:

I'm looking at buying a replacement engine for my 675.
    Plenty of them available
    BUT
Almost all are Street Triple engines.
I realise the fundamental differences between the build specifications, and it is very important that I source a Daytona one.
Now I have noticed that the sumps on the Streets are painted black, and Daytona's are plain silver alloy. However a sump can easily be changed.
All the other differences that I'm aware of are internal, and breakers don't seem keen on me stripping down their engines before I'll consider buying them..
Triumph don't seem to be able to advise me of the year without a VIN number, but it seems that the breakers often don't keep cross-references from engines on their shelves.

So this is where you lot come in. :)

    Please can everyone send me:
    • Your engine number ? along with,
    • The year of the bike ? &
    • Daytona or Street Triple version.?
I will see if I can try to create a database from your information, so that we can have something to refer to if any of us are looking for replacement engines.

If you don't want your details public in this thread, please just message me & I'll add your information & delete the message.

The more people who respond, the more comprehensive/accurate the breakdown should be ( and therefore more potentially useful to us all ) so please let me know. TIA.

    # Edit.: Obviously if anyone already has the correct information to identify build specification from engine numbers, that would be even better.!

  2. Just get a later one with oval ports, all the 08-12 streets had round ports

Thanks 0Luke0, I wasn't aware that all Streets had round ports & that's certainly useful info to add to my variant breakdown list.

    However...

I'm not intending to try to compile this purely for my intended purchase. I was hoping to have something on here for members to be able to refer to in order to check that any engine they are contemplating is the build spec' that they want.
I know that there have been instances reported on here where ST engines have been supplied for Daytona track use, and subsequently failed.
Barrels & sump can be exchanged, giving a Street engine the appearance of a Daytona.

The daytona engines have the machined mark on the boss, street triples don't

Very true Steve, just a moment with a drill & the ST engine appears to be a Daytona.!

This is why I really would like as many as possible engine number/ variant/ year details, so that we all have something to refer to when looking for replacement engines.

Why didn't they mark ST engines then instead, and leave Daytona engines undamaged, or is there a real manufacturing purpose to the mark?

Well, I feel it could be useful, but as yet only one person has actually given details. :((

Come on please you lot; the more bike details I have the more likely I can build a relevant database.

    Engine number 368409 from v5.

Good luck with the research. Interested to see if identification is possible from numbers alone. My engine casings are the grey colour ones.

Yes mate, still not got much in the way of numbers to correlate from I'm afraid. Hopefully in time more members will supply their bike's details for us to add to the database.
    Long-haul I suspect. awww.tankslap.co.uk_images_smilies_emoticon_0101_sadsmile.gif
