What did you do to your bike today?

Discussion in 'General' started by Tony B, Apr 6, 2013.

  1. Stuck to my word and have been enjoying the Daytona more and more this year, as well as the Thruxton.
Had a great ride yesterday, really felt at one with the bike like I used to, sometimes when I don't ride it often enough it feels alien, still makes me ride like a bit of a hooligan sometimes though:devil:
The Thruxton may have it licked when it comes to kerb appeal at the bike meets but for pure riding pleasure I'm glad I kept hold of the Daytona 675R, and it still looks great in my eyes after 9 yrs and 24k miles.

Nice to have the choice, my Thruxton feels equally as special as my Daytona

  3. Nice! A few of us on here have Thruxton’s these days then!

I have a 2015 R1 for trackdays but I don’t ride it on the road now, only the Thruxton R. I had a silver one during covid but sold it because I was concerned about money, then bought this white one with 1100 miles in the summer, it looks absolutely incredible in white.

  4. The Thruxton does feel special but its a different riding experience than the 675R, enjoy them both in their own ways.
Is that one of the new paint options, wasn't keen on the original RS gloss black or matt colours, quite like that though.

    Are you sure it wasn't
I had a silver one during covid but sold it because every Fu***R else has a silver one:hissy:
Seems that way at least whenever I bump into one.
Maybe we need a Thruxton sub section, Coincidentally I went from a 2016 R1 to the Thruxton R.
The crystal white is one of my favourite colours for the Thruxton, and a rare sight as well, in fact the very first Thruxton R I laid eyes on in the dealers back in 2016 was a crystal white with the café racer fairing, nearly bought it there and then, but maybe two crystal white Triumphs would have been too much.

Throw in another pic just to complete the set:D

  5. Lovely! I used my Thruxton today (to slightly bring it back on topic) just so good for popping about on, I agree though, the 675 is a great useable road bike.

Personally I really miss riding my Gen 3 675r on the road, it wasn’t the most special thing to own but it was great to ride

I love the look of that bike....if you had of asked me, I would have said black was the best choice for a Thruxton, but that silver is looking really good....shows off the whole bike a little bit better than black does.

Well I’m hopefully closer to getting my road worthy again!

Front/Rear disc, pads & sprockets replaced and chain ready to be fitted. However I now need the chain riveting tool to put the chain on so can align the wheel and then need to bleed the front brakes which didn’t go well last time and not getting any pressure so next weeks jobs!

oh and need new rear disc bolts but every time I order I find more bolts that need replacing and it’s getting expensive in titanium bolts! hopefully they don’t need replacing as often!

  8. MOT time for the Daytona, no problems as usual although the horn was touch and go, luckily managed two "strong" beeps before changing to a more pathetic meep meep, I'll have to add that to my winter list.
Struck it lucky with the weather considering its October and MOT was booked last week, went straight home to get rid of the awful full size plate and the Arrow baffle, was so keen it was still hot:confused:
Really feels like a different bike with no baffle (or exup), although my riding seems to change to match the more aggressive sound.
Quick trip to my usual coffee stop on the coast to enjoy the triple sound turned up to 11 again:D
Managed almost exactly 1000 miles since the last MOT, still a third of the Thruxton mileage but definitely been enjoying the Daytona more and more.

@wobblybiker99 i notice that as well, when the baffles are out of my STR, i ride very differently :D, which i noticed the last few trips after putting them back in ready for MOT Saturday.
Still getting a few good days in at the moment, and some dry commutes, although a bit chilly

My Daytona, unfortunately, has only done MOT mileage the last couple of years :( so it might be going up for sale.
The tester always remarks how bright the Watsens are though

Is there something about bike MOT’s in October?

Mine finally went in today and wasn’t expecting it to pass. Brakes have the stopping power of slug and yet… it still passed! o_O

got minors for pitted forks which I knew of and will be replaced once I recover from getting bankrupt by everything else so far and the chain is lose because, I have no idea wtf I’m doing!

So I’m finally able to ride it, legally… even if I have little chance of stopping when Mavis pulls out because she hasn’t got her glasses on again! So guess that’s tomorrows jobs! But damn, I forgot how amazing it sounds with the Tor can so hopefully once the few niggles are fixed it’ll be time to take it for a run and start evicting the spiders!

LED’s headlights seem pretty amazing though. Not tried them on a dark road so maybe tomorrow. If they’re better I’ll have to kit the car out.

Dipped beam bulb went the other day (wondered why so many people carried out strange manoeuvres in front of me....).
What LED lights have you got and where from? Easy to fit etc ?

    I bought these from Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B092QMPPB7
I'd check which ones but pretty sure it was H7 and H9 for dipped and main. I rode it back at night and they seemed better than the old ones but have a few things to get fixed before I can really ride it a lot.

    Sidelights:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09GM2MTCV
So all front lights match pretty well. Doubt they'll help against SMIDSY's though :(

Also be aware if you google it. There's a company (think it was www.ledpref.co.uk) that isn't actually a UK company but a French company and I'm still waiting for a refund for the parcel I refused because they took so long not only to post, but get delivered and ended up buying the Amazon ones after paying for nextday.

Cheers for this - H7 is the dipped one that is out - they seem expensive compared to just a normal H7 halogen bulb, will look into it and thanks :)

I think it’s worth it though tbh. My bikes going in Monday to get checked up so after that I’ll take it out at night and see but the old ones were borderline useless but then seem a much cleaner light and from what I’ve read xenon lights aren’t meant for retrofitting so next best thing since it annoys me so many cars seem to have then fitted poorly.

Also straight replacement, no hole drilling and hopefully longer lasting… oh and they also come in pairs!

Cheers - will have a better look into this then

  16. On the subject of SMIDSY's, didn't mention it in my earlier post but had a very near miss on the way home, bloke turned across into a petrol station from the opposite lane right in front of me, just about managed to slow up in time to avoid him, it must have been inches though, I think the only things that saved me was I was only travelling at or under the 30 limit (it was school chucking out time and there were traffic lights just after the petrol station ahead) and the guy pulled across quickly and didn't stop or hesitate if he did see me halfway through the manoeuvre so he was just clear as I managed to stop.
Followed him in and he got out of the car very apologetic and claimed he didn't see me but the fact he knew why I was there and was already holding his hands up apologising suggests otherwise.
There was no cars ahead or following me and he was facing the sun so maybe he was just looking for cars and didn't see me until too late, even with my HID headlight.
I thought after if I could have done anything differently like swerve into the opposite lane instead, although that could have put me in more danger, but my first instinct was just to slam on, I think if I'd tried to swerve as I was braking hard I could have lost the front.

As far as I can recall in the 12 years since passing my test this is my first proper full on 100% braking SMIDSY, I know many would find that hard to believe, had plenty of others were the car has maybe started to pull out but then spotted me and stopped, or others were they've pulled out into what they've thought is a reasonable gap but I've been going way over the limit and had to brake hard, but I usually count them as much my fault as theirs.

I always say you should learn from every near miss incident and think what YOU could have done differently rather than just blame the other driver, even if it was technically their fault, because you cannot modify their behaviour only your own.
But I'm struggling to think what I could have done differently, I'm usually cautious the same as most I imagine approaching cars waiting to pull out of side roads, the usual SMIDSY zone, and always ensure I'm not hidden by other vehicles and might do a bit of side to side movement to help being seen, but you'd expect approaching somebody head on about 50 yds away they'd be able to see you.
Also he only indicated as he turned at the last second so its not as if I was watching him anyway thinking he may turn, from what he said it was a last minute decision to turn in and I don't think he took the time to look properly:mad:.
If nothing else I may practice my emergency stops though, probably something you should do regular, as I'm not sure now if I was braking as hard as possible, didn't do a Toprak , and I'm wondering if I was on the Thruxton it would have stopped in time with another 30 odd kilo's.

Pleased to read that you came out ahead mate.
Fwiw I know precisely what you mean when you say about trying to evaluate & learn from it. I too become very un-nerved when I'm unable to pencil in a " note for the future ".
Oh & the indicating thing... -Is it just me, or does indicating seem to becoming almost a rarity, or at best an afterthought.??
