Rear sub-frame mod good idea or bad?

I'm kind of bored at the moment and looking at stuff I shouldn't be...

My rear sub-frame has some paint flaking off and so I got the idea of replacing it, I don't have the rear foot peg mounted either and was thinking of doing away with the mount on the frame so it's smooth. See pic of before and after. Mostly for aesthetics and maybe some weight saving really..


Anybody got any experience of whether its been done before and if its a bad idea? Will it effect the rigidity of the rear sub-frame? please let me know. TIA

Yeah that will be fine, not sure how far up you can go until you get to the tubular part though

 

Weight saving? May as well take a shit before a ride for the good it'll do.

Just get some nice blanking plates.

 

Trying to remember who did it on here but someone cut those off and then had the subframe vapour blasted, looked pretty good

Great idea in principle. Probably more bother than it's worth in practice.

Get a pair of blanking plates.
OR!!!....if you're a super-duper-cheapskate like me, some plastic trim blank buttons from an autoparts store ...which personally I think have the most "factory look" about them.

 

And they're lighter than blanking plates! Worth at least two-tenths a lap. Fcuk yeah!!!!!!

 

I’d say cut them off if you want pal
You will need to get it repainted or blasted afterwards though
I didn’t mine in a bit of hurry as I was at the paint shop and remembered I wanted them off
I think it looks smart

@Bigmac - I think that frame looks pretty smart... Exactly what I was looking for.

I've already got a blanking plates already, but the frame has paint flaking up so thought I could kill to birds with one stone...



I'm going to source a spare frame and swap them over and have a go on my current frame when it's off the bike.

 

Fwiw I think I recall that @Bigmac may have a rear subframe available for sale

I got blanks in halfords like a big button plastic fixing I will try dig out the part number and get a pic and look oem a really cheap mod and so easy to do, I almost sure this is them:
