Hey guys! Going to be doing a little winter tidy work and replace out the exhaust studs as they look nasty. Thinking of not using studs this time around in a bid to not have exposed threads and make things easier should they ever need to come off in future. The studs are listed as being 36.5mm so I think I could swap these out with some 25-30mm bolts. Has anyone changed these around before and can say which length they used? Think something like THESE would do the job. Tah Rob
Whilst I can see your logic Robert, fwiw I would be reluctant to replace the studs & nuts with bolts. (Apart from springs) almost all manifolds that I recall working on have used studs & nuts. This has applied across the board & irrespective of the perceived quality of manufacture. I would suspect that there is likely to be an underlying basis for that conformity ?
Thanks, a fair bit of feedback. Looking online I see contradiction around why studs are used ranging from ease for assembly line and less stress on the softer material block. You are spot on however with the view that most do it this way and there must be good reason, maybe leave my redesign of the wheel for next project! Happy to take your feedback and ill stick to the studs, just get some uprated ones and nuts. Thanks!
