Took it for its MOT this morning. Was my first ride in over 9 years and felt very rusty but definitely brought back all of those emotions we all have when biking. Been a long winter tinkering as well as everything I added last year (then didn't ride thanks to covid). Just finished fitting rad and downpipe guards, carbon Eye lids, Austin racing LH exhaust shield (can't see it in this pic), painting intake surround Black. Beat it with a wet kipper. If it's not one thing, it's another. Freed up the exhaust valve, but the EML stayed on well after the usual three engine cycles. Took the cover off the servo to check the adjustment, only to find that one of the cables was only hanging on by two strands (anyone got a spare set?) The wet kippering was well justified!!!
Got fed up with trying to adjust the stock brake light switch with my Gilles rearsets so I fitted a pressure switch. It was pretty fiddly plugging the new one in under the tank but combined with my Woodcraft brake return spring it works a treat!
Purely cosmetic 09 frame coloured std rearsets to replace chrome standard ones on my 06 - thanks to MikeHicks675
Fitted new brake lines front and rear from AS3 performance, they're venhill and have a rather neat banjo design which makes them slightly adjustable for position instead of solid. Also, they're race setup on the front, still running the standard master for anyone curious and they've fitted just fine. After bleeding the levers feel nice and sharp. Changed the brake fluid for some fresh Motul. Why are the containers always so big? It annoys me that only ever use half of it.
Managed to get the Daytona out for the first ride of the year after only riding the Thruxton so far. Wasn't sure how it'd feel as on the limited rides I had last year it felt a bit "full on" in comparison and I wasn't sure if I was getting too old to enjoy it, but happily I really enjoyed the ride and gelled with the bike like I'd never been away. The Thruxton is great but there's so many things about the Daytona that set it apart, the noise of the unbaffled Arrow, the precision of the gearshifts, being able to use the quickshifter 95% of the time and the response of the throttle on downshifts, the lack of weight and fast turn in, brakes feel so much firmer and more powerful despite being nearly identical, the more controlled and smoother ride of the more quality Ohlin's against the badged "Ohlins" twin shocks on the Thruxton. The only time it really gives second best in comparison is kerbside appeal, it doesn't get the attention it deserves as the ultimate supersport bike, the Thruxton gets far more positive comments and starts more conversations, that shouldn't be important but I must admit I quite like it sometimes.
Actually got out and rode it. First time I've ridden a bike in best part of 10 years (even had this 1 a year ). Did a refresher course to help build confidence, and to highlight where I am a bit rusty. Found it VERY useful and very informative. Sent from my VOG-L09 using 675.cc mobile app
