Bought the Daytona a few weeks back but nothing in the service book shows that it has had a major service (it does ride OK so probably not a major issue yet). Rang my local Triumph dealer to look at getting it booked in - earliest is the 17th of September................. Should I just use any dealership to do this (or backstreet garage!!) as the bike is obviously no longer under warranty - would do it myself but do not have the tools to carry this out. Thoughts.
Firstly, what is the mileage & how long since the last service that you know of.? Secondly, did you ask the dealership to check and see if their system showed a service history.: It's not at all unusual for owners to forget to take their service book in to be stamped. Triumph's system may therefore show a more complete history than your service book.
Mileage is around 8200 and when I bought it they changed the oil and battery only. I have the book and for 2 years he bike was not used so only 2 stamps in the book that I can see and nothing shouts it has had a full service. I will reach out to the Triumph dealership and ask if they can check the service history but will not show anything from an independent I suppose!
Where are you based @gninnam ? Lots of good specialists around people on here could recommend. If you are indeed near Leeds as your avatar suggests, a day out to swineshead to see the legend Clive wood would be my recommendation. Unreserved recommendation. You can watch while he works, have a bacon sandwich on the house and his work is exceptional.
Probably easiest to ring him. Have a look at the reviews and Facebook. Top bloke. And really interesting. He'll be worried about your suspension linkages if it's been dealer serviced. Knows lots about our bikes. Built triumph race bikes for years.
Pleased for you. Not bad that. He's usually booked solid.. completely solid! Let us know how you get on.
To be honest 8k miles is fine. Valves don’t need doing for a while, plus triple engines tend to be opposite to inline 4’s the valves tend to keep the tightness without loosing the power. Aslong as the oil level is correct for that year and model ( earlier gens had issue with dipstick ) then it will run sweet as a nut. My 2006 ran for nearly 24,000miles without having shims changed as they stayed in spec. Filter plugs and oil plus recalls if needed
Just come back from Clive's - what a thoroughly nice bloke Not too much needed doing to it but looks to have never been used as a track bike but has been used over winter (the bolts for the exhaust headers are mostly rust!!) So, replaced oil, front and rear brake fluid and topped up the expansion tank for the radiator plus a few little thinks and gave it a good look over (checked bolts to make sure all good). So, bike good until the next service (next year) so a happy camper
Pleased you had a positive experience. I've always found Clive to be a star and recommend him without hesitation Good stuff.
