2009 Daytona - SAI Blanking Install

Since I bought my 2009 track bike last year there has always been a considerable amount of backfire under deceleration. With only limited knowledge I am leaning towards one of 2 reasons below, or a combination of both

    1) The bike had a full titanium arrow exhaust (from a street triple, low slung side exhaust with bastardised headers) installed by the previous owner. The arrow map was loaded in the ECU. After damaging the arrow end can I have recently reverted to the stock end can (underseat) and downloaded the stock map. So I have a weird exhaust thing going on, part arrow titanium exhaust from the headers down (no cat) with the oem end can installed. Not ideal but finances have prevented me purchasing another arrow end can. Since I reverted to the stock end can and standard map I have not had the bike on the track to check the popping/backfire. However I was thinking that the popping may just be because the arrow map was installed and it means the fuelling will run richer than with the stock map?

    2) The 2nd thought relates to the Secondary Air Injection System. The previous owner had the triumph race kit fitted which includes the SAI blanking plates. My understanding of these plates was when installed they help get rid of any backfire from unburnt gases. I have checked the map in tuneecu and the SAI was disabled in the arrow map and I have disabled using tuneecu in the standard map now on the bike. Is it possible that when the SAI plates were installed, other plugs (i.e. airbox & crankcase breather)have somehow been missed or fiddled with, or the correct procedure for removing the SAI has not been followed?

Out of my depth with this one - can anyone please help? Cheers :)

  2. Could be a combination of both, you need fuel and air to get it to pop, the SAI blanks should've been fitted with the solid dowels in the cam cover to limit air flow. The stock SAI blanks don't seal great, a little liquid gasket helps.
