Hi, Don't know if anyone can help with this...2007 Daytona. Went on a 1500mile trip to France a month ago, all running sweet but torrential rain for most of it. Got home, and a couple of days later washed the muck off and started it to go up the slope back into the garage, no problem. Wasn't able to use it for a while but had my MoT booked a couple of weeks later, so put it on trickle charge just in case for a couple of days. Went to take to MoT, wouldn't start. Cranking over OK, and all the correct noises from the fuel pump, smelling of fuel, but no start. Got a new set of plugs and fitted, still no start. The old plugs were a bit sooty, but not wet. My local Triumph dealer is saying at least 4 weeks before they can look at it! Any ideas? I'm suspecting no spark, but don't know where to start looking. Thanks in advance.
easy way to test for spark is to put a spark plug in the ht lead and rest on top of engine while spinning it over you should see a spark but if as you say plugs are dry then it would sugest no fuel getting in or it is sparking as there would be unburnt fuel around what area are you someone might be able to recomend someone to look at it quicker
I would try jump starting it from a known, good battery. The charging circuit has been problematic for a few including me and the symptoms you describe are wearily familiar. Easy one to rule out. Good luck
I would try bump starting at - this is a lightweight bike and will only take a few yards at most. If it starts, this rules out so many other things and points to the starter solenoid, this is a common fault and easy/cheap to replace. Well covered on this forum too, just search
It's not a HD but a light sports bike that's a doddle to bump and would be high on list of things to try before splashing out on replacement parts. Anyway, the most common issue on these bike tend to be the RegRec or solenoid. Sadly you need the engine running to check the RR with a multi-meter but if the solenoid was was broken, the bike wouldn't be turning over. If you have a multi-meter, check the voltage on the battery but it sounds if the bike is turning over. I'm guessing there's no error codes/lights being displayed as TuneECU would help you out there. Good luck and keep us informed
Sounds identical to a problem I had recently. Crank position sensor gone. Would turn over but not fire. There's a thread on here explaining how to check the CPS with a multimeter and how to replace the CPS if it's gone.
Thanks for all replies, due to some other commitments, I won't be able to get on to it again for a few days, but I'll let you know how things work out. Unfortunately, I'm at the bottom of all the hills around, so will need to push it up to come down . I'll see if I can get someone to give me a push on the flat. I'm just south of Milton Keynes on the Beds / Bucks border, my nearest triumph dealer is in Woburn. I had the RegRec done under warranty 18 month ago. Thanks again..
Not sure I got to the bottom of this, but bike going again! Jumped it from a car battery, wouldn't start, but with a bit of persistence and holding the throttle wide open whilst it was cranking over fast, it eventually coughed and spluttered and burst into life. I think damp or some contamination had got in the fuel system and the above cleared it out. Anyway, running and starting fine again now, which is a great relief as off to the IoM in 3 weeks. Thanks again for the replies
it is possible it was slightly flooded thats why it wouldnt start but the cps can be tempremental before giving up alltogether keep a eye on it if it starts ok for a while then might be ok but if it starts no problem sometimes and other times takes a while it might be developing a full on fault
