....Maybe --- maybe not - one of the lasses who I hang out with at the tracks rides an '07 bike & has come up with an ingenious idea to protect the rectifier/regulator (whatever that thing behind the engine is?)..or rather her hubby has....Julie's hubby Tom has attached a very small temp. gauge to the unit itself..if it shows above 180F whens she pits, then he blasts it with air from a couple of high-power fans...reckons that's all it takes to keep it in good nick.

    Mmm interesting. . . .

So what your saying is that she likes a good ride, and when she comes in for a break, two fans blow her from behind, while her husband checks her temperature.

    Only in America!

I was talking to Triumph many times over the summer and they say it's water Ingres thats buggering em up. Need input from more people on here to see what conditions people with problems ride in.

Look to the rear of the bike, above the swingarm at the rear of the engine....alloy coloured item about the size of a cigarette pack with cooling fins on it.

    ....And stop calling me Si!

  7. On the 09+ models, they're tucked up inside the right hand side of the fairing. They have a fair bit of water protection but we still hearing reports of them blowing. On my GSR it was directly behind the front wheel at the front of the engine. Totally exposed to the elements and in four years I only heard of 2 going faulty.

Hold on, is it a silver looking thing with heat fins, mounted to the inside top of the right side fairing? About 10cm x 10cm x 3?

  9. That sounds like it could be the fella, if yours is 09 or later. I thought it was more black / dark grey, but I've not really taken that much notice TBH.

On the later bikes - yes.

It's about 40mm from the exhaust link pipe on my earlier bikes. A design "triumph" to put something that needs to be cooled as close as possible to an exhaust running at 250C.....

  11. And on the 09 or later bikes its next to the cylinders and exhaust headers. I wonder if they factored that additional heat into the design specs??

Here it is on the GSR.....

2 blown in 4 years on a forum with 833 members. Could be on to something here!

Keeping it clean and spraying Connector spray on, should keep you on the move. as i found with mine.

I had mine go on my 09 bike (inside the fairing). Bike is used in good weather and light rain (if I get caught out). Mine had been left unplugged however by the dealer, 6 months earlier, when they were replacing my pourous cylinder head, which left me stranded by the side of the road calling the RAC  They also replaced the battery under warranty :)

Jimjam39, is it the silver thing inside the right side fairing? With heat fins on, about the size of 2 packs of ciggies?

  17. Directly underneath the r/h fairing infill. Put you hands under inline with the r/h fork and you'll feel it. Its definately black on mine because I've just gone out to the garage to have a look. All you 09 owners, please agree with Steffy that its silver - that way it looks like I have the newer version :p :D

  18. i got a black one
