Has anyone used grp (fibreglass) tank covers? I'm was thinking about putting one on to protect the tank but also they seem.much easier to paint than a tank for track colour schemes.
Didn't know there were such things mate. Do they have extra protection on those vulnerable protruding corner points.? Because I wouldn't expect GRP on it's own is going to offer much protection. Probably add a fair bit of weight though.?
@StMarks - they are just like a fibreglass cover that goes over the whole tank. Thought about getting one myself, but in the end just got a spare tank and sprayed it up. Don't think they have extra reinforced points but they're pretty reasonably priced (about £85) - like this
Thanks @Trouble. That is pretty reasonable, when compared to the tank corner protectors. On balance, I'll follow you're lead & stick to just having a spare tank.
Had one on my 2006 track bike to protect the oem tank. Had a decent high sider. Tankcover had some light scratches, but underneath the OEM tank could contain 13L instead of 17L haha. don't expect miracles from these things. If you are going to use them. Use lots of tape on your OEM tank, because the cover will leave scratches on your tank.
Well I'm going to pass on those reviews. I've got large carbon corner tips to go on the tank and a secondary tack seems like a better option. I'll keep an eye open for an project.
these are just a simple way of making your bike look good once you've already dinged your tank. They won't offer much protection.
