Does anyone know anything about fine art? I always liked this water colour my Nan had and when she passed just before Christmas it got passed to me. She always said it was worth something but, I just liked it for what it is. I would be interested to see what it is worth though so I can make sure it's insured properly as my house insurance only covers individual items up to a given value before they have to be individually declared. I don't know what the piece is called but, it is signed "A F de Breanski" I had a quick google and didn't really find much. It looks like there are two possibles the father or the son but, I couldn't find a catalogue of their works to see if mine is one of them. I will also try and contact a local aution house to see what they say although we don't have much in the way of these things down this way so I am not to sure how reliable any valuation they can give would be.
Iirc you can take a picture and email it for a valuation. Ill try and find a link. Maybe google value my antique or artwork. I'm sure an old girlfriend of mine did it. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=value ... ent=safari
Lots of stuff out there on the web about these two guys, and they both seem like they did a lot of paintings. A.F de Breanski seems to be the signature favoured by the son from what I can see. The son was a student of Whistler, so his work is also popular in the US. His oil-on-canvas works look like they fetch well over 5000USD, in some cases over 10,000USD, his watercolours go for about half that.
What D says, I don't know of them myself, well I do now as I checked. Seem to have a good fan base as it were. Should be worth a few bob. or an investment for a raining day, if they are still in vogue when you decide to sell.
I took my ratty old stuffed dog to the Antiques Roadshow...the guy said "Wow! ....a somewhat poor but nonetheless rare example of a J. Mather & Son taxidermy done in, I'm guessing around 1910?? Do you know what it would fetch in good condition??" I said "Sticks??"
The bloke who's forever on daytime TV - Jeremy Lamond - is a fine art auctioneer with Halls here in Shrewsbury. Try emailing him, you'll find them on google.
