Yesterday i was riding home, after a long stretch if not using my brakes in needed them pretty sharp, the initial grab was weak and i had to almost pump the brake three times to get a decent bite... Holy crap!! Then a couple of miles later the same!! Ive looked over it and cant see anything un toward.... Any ideas peeps?? These were proper heart in your mouth! Oh shit moments
Do you still have those clips in the back of the calipers to prevent knock back? If it was a bumpy road it could have been some knock back but, I think thats unlikely. Possible though. Assuming no leaks or anything?
Springs behind the pistons? Everythings as stock and no leaks.... Really weird! N fooookin scary... :0( After it happened i jabbed on a fee times it was fine, could it be cold brakes??
Air in the system not a bad shout. Not 100% sure for the Brembo's but, normally there are some clips (spring metal) that go in over the back of the pads not the pistons. They stop the pads ratteling if they were missing it might aid any possible knock back. I don't think it would be cold brakes not unless your running some race only compound pads in them. Road pads are desinged to work from cold.
Can't see it being anything other then air if it's only done 1600 system may not have been bleeded correctly
Check along the braking system to make sure everything is tight, especially the bleed nipples and the reservoir cap. Check the level and the colour of your brake fluid. Before this how were the brakes? Were they always solid or had you noticed them softening?
Honestly think theyve been fine up until yesterday... It is a strange one.. Fluids seem fine and i cannot spot any leaks
Doesn't matter if it's yellow or black mate haha If there is air in the system it won't stop you and will feel really spongy until the line is pressured . See if you have all the banjo's tightened up and also the bleed nipples along with the res hoses. I had a tiny pin prick hole in my res hose and found out the next day haha
The reason I asked is in pretty sure that my fluid was yellow before it's service and when I got it back the front fluid is really dark but I have no proof. Was wondering if that could impact performance?
Perhaps they may have replaced all the fluid, & changed the fluid colour at the same time to be able to confirm that all the old fluid was purged.? https://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=21652 If it's dark yellow/brown then that is more worrying IMO.: Brake fluid is hydroscopic, and the more water it absorbs the darker it becomes (also therefore the more compressible/spongy/prone to fade).
It shouldn't be dark unless you've used dark fluid. A change of colour isn't good. If they changed the fluid and used a darker one then that could explain it. You should change your brake fluid on a regular basis. It's a good habit to get into.
it sounds like a leak, if you have to pump it for it to bite, and then moments later down the road you have to do the same thing. like most have said, something could have rattled loose. if u are tightening banjos etc…once tightened, just mark bolt and body with tippex and then you can quickly visualise if anything has moved from when you last tightened it. I do this for most of my 'important' bolts.
