Well, today started off about as good as it gets.

Sun was shining and the family were all off to the in-laws and I had a pass out!

Mate let me down for a days riding but I wasn't bothered so I headed off to Matlock taking in the views and the sun as I went. Actually rode quite leisurely too for a change!

Was out for 2-3 hours when I come over the Cat n Fiddle and stopped as I headed into Macclesfield. Thought I would check my phone so pulled over. Noticed my petrol light was on and I was about 15 miles from home. Decided to turn off the bike and look in the tank for a visual on how much fuel I had as I could not be bothered stopping. Loads of fuel sloshing around so went to start her up........NOTHING!

Clocks and start up doing their thing but when I hit the fun button.......the clocks just reset themselves and that was that. Oh and the EML was on.

Quick call to Dean and he said it sounds like a rectifier problem. Mine's an '09 so it's under the infill. On checking it the connections were all lubed up and nothing seemed off but obviously the unit is buggered! AA guy charged the battery and got me home but it cut out with a few miles to go. Another charge (he followed me!) and I was home.

Need to get it to Triumph tomorrow for a new one. Luckily I am covered for parts and labour under my AA policy. I have claimed for a BMW X3 Start motor, a car battery and now this and I have only had the policy since November! Not to mention the 3 call outs!

Anyway, 2 hours to get home but still enjoyed the ride. Bike on the Optimate so I can get it to Triumph in the morning!

Cheers Dean - you are a star!

Going to call BS Bikes (Staffordshire Triumph) and see if they can collect and if not see if the AA will cover the cost etc.

Sure I'll get it sorted but if I need a hand I will give you a call.

That problem has been in the back of my mind since I joined this forum so at least I know it's sorted going forward.

Might see if they will loan me the new Street or Speed whilst it's in there! I had a Tiger for the day last time and I actually liked it quite a lot. Not as fun but I had to cover some miles that day and it was a breeze on that thing.

I know.......it's almost accepted that it will go and will need replacing. I'm lucky in the sense I should be covered except for the policy excess but the bike is not yet 3 years old.......the rectifier is in good shape, no corrosion and connectors well sealed, no obvious reason why it should have gone.

Triumph should pick up the cost on a goodwill basis-try that first before getting in to a claim with an excess payment.

  9. Just had mine done on my '10 plate dude. Very annoying, just glad you're covered.

Did you cover the cost yourself?

  11. they are good lads up at bs mate, if any one's going to get you sorted they will. They are moving shop next week though so might take a bit longer than usual.

Yeah I thought that. As long as they give me a decent loan bike I don't mind! I imagine they will be booked up after the move though.

I can recommend BS Bikes too - I know Tiko fairly well.

  14. No buddy. I was recovered under my personal cover to the dealership & all done under warranty.

I think they might have... as I believe from 2011 there is a new regulator/rectifier and it is in a different position.

    +1 on that
If the regulator has been fried then it won't be keeping the voltage from the charging system to 14.5 Volts and you could get spikes of over 17 Volts which can damage the electronics.
If any of the rectifiers in the assembly have been fried then they may go partial open circuit, draining the battery and letting through negative voltage spikes which can again fry the electronics.

  18. They changed it and moved it to the right hand infill panel for the 2009 inwards, have they changed it again?

I believe that from VIN 403974 for Daytona 675s and VIN 456777 for Street Triple and Street Triple R there is a new regulator/rectifier unit - which is a MOSFET one. Not sure if they moved it again.

I spoke to a mate who says people had similar problems with GSXR's. His went on his 750.

BS Bikes picked it up this morning and dropped me off a loan bike.....£30 charge for 60 miles round trip. Happy with that and didn't have to leave my house.

So..........my new ride for the next few days is a Bonneville T100!!! Actually had loads of fun on it today blasting around the lanes. Soooooo heavy though! Nice to have a change of bike for a bit though but I imagine after 3 days I will be pretty desperate to get mine back.
