Has anyone fit the brake light with the built in indicators to there tona?? I have just bought one off eBay go 65 quid just wondered if anyone else has used them and what there thoughts are ?
These are e marked whatever that means I assume it was for mot? Of not ill stick std tail back on for mot.
I've got one on my road bike, it works well, but the indicator parts of it are difficult to see from the rear if the brake light is on my mate tells me. I wired mine in with a spare plug so I can swap it out for the std one at mot time. They don't meet mot regs as the the indicator lights are not close enough to the outside silhouette of the bike I was told.
Wiz biz say it is E marked not EC marked. I don't think it'll pass bud. They look cool though and are easy to swap over at MOT time. Edit EC markings explained.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CE_marking
I've got one on mine, but then fitted some mini indicators later on for the MOT & haven't taken them back off.
ill go the same route as deegee has with his, wire a spare in for a quick change over at mot time . cheers all!
I had one fitted on my first 675 and thought they looked great until I let my mate ride my bike and I followed behind on his. They were hard enough to make out under normal use and nearly impossible when the brake light was on too! I binned it shortly afterwards and fitted mini LED ones that worked better
if i think there unsafe ill just throw it in the triumph box in the garage along with all the std parts taken off the bike
personaly i dont like them my mate had 1 fitted to his zx10 and we disconected the indicators and fitted some small external ones because of the reason thats allready been said when the brake light is on the indicators could not be seen but there are modern cars with a similar system and they are legal as for mot some will pass them some wont but if new cars can have them fitted then why cant bikes
Had them on my old R6 You can see them in the pic, well kinda coz of luggage. (Trip to Ulster GP) Looked streamlined on bike and nice and worked fine but once brake light went on pffftttt forget it Looks sweet but not the safest. Would not have them again like, just a excuse for a tin top driver with painted on eye bugs to hit you (Yes I know I have no plate, my hubby not the most law abiding citizen when it comes to bikes, he'd remove mine , I go first, use scaler head sets so I warn if speed traps and he slows down in time). Police stopped me, I'm a lady and would play dumb oh sorry officer it was there when I left stupid thing must of fell off, ok Mrs get a new one, sure will cheers - see yaaaaa.
Because the indicators on cars are at the sides. Indicators on bikes have to be 240mm apart according to the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989. There is no issue with them being in the same unit as the brake light, but they do need to meet the minimum distance rule. However, I don't believe the spacing is something that MOT inspectors are asked to check so technically it should go through an MOT ok.
as for the mot test. they should and do fail . @as they interfere with the operation of another lamp..... instant fail. they switch off 50% of a brake lamp when working . they also invalidate your insurance if you don't notify them. I know of a customer at work that had a claim refused because he had one fitted.... and I am a mot tester
oh forgot to say I have had a bike in with a prohibition order for having one of these fitted as well. lots hassle for the owner.cost him a lot of money
I like the idea of them but I've ridden behind people with them before and they are really hard to see so I think they are a bit dangerous. Also the fact that they are illegal could be used (perhaps with some justification in this case) to apportion blame in an accident.
Got on on mine and is fine I'm told by mates its bright enough. Must be less than 50% of overall light. Guess I'm lucky to have a good mot centre who loves triumphs sssh!
