As i have the bike apart at the moment for the throttle mod i am trying to change the bar end (just the silver bit) as it was damanged then the bike fell over in a petrol station :(

is there a special technique to this of is it just vice the weight and allen key the bolt?

 Sorry for the brief post Glenn675, I'm "working" & didn't have time to explain properly. :(

:? may have seemed patronising, as I can now see that you are familiar with the Bar end, & insert
I was (trying to) suggest that it may be easier to remove the two components as a unit, and then you would maybe be able to get better purchase on the fixing.?

Incidentally, the "Daytona supplied tool kit" (aka screwdriver under the seat) is apparently the perfect fit for the screw.

its ok i dont think ive got my question across very well as i was in the garage on my phone at the time

i have the complete unit sat on the side in the garage at the moment and am trying to change the silver bit on the end as it was damaged when the bike fell over :(.

i had a quick go with some moles grips but it just spins and i cant get the bolt to undo, is there some trick technique to it?

  6. It is not a great design. The problem I had with the Triumph extensions was that the bar ends never tightened up properly to the handlebars, they could always revolve no matter how tight I made the screw.

I had to bust one unit to get it out. It would not tighten up....but neither did it want to experience freedom, so in the end I junked those OE extensions and changed my bar ends for R&G units

Instead of getting another extension piece like the one shown on Ebay, I used the more conventional expanding rubber sleeve type of fixing that I had spare in my garage from some cheapo bar ends I never fitted. I've had no trouble since then - the bar ends are tight and the R&G's damp out any vibrations that may otherwise be there.

    Ah, I see.

I'm at work still, I can have a look at mine when I get home this evening if you like.

As Charlie above, I have removed mine (inserts & all) in favour of simple bar end protectors & a decent steering damper. I therefore have the parts in my spares box.

I seem to be able to get mine off easily?! Maybe something is damaged inside that prevents this tricky thing from working..
