Some on here will know I'm self employed - I'm a solicitor.

We recycle most stuff, at my insistence. So envelopes from the post all go off to the recycling facility, as does cardboard. The issue is, who brings it there. It's driving me absolutely nuts. None of the team is willing to drive it the 2 miles up to the place, so I end up doing it cos I can't stand looking at it any longer. Why won't anyone do it - yes I know it's not in their job description but so what!!!! Why won't they help??? Am I being totally unreasonable? One of the team even drives home fairly close to the place and all I get is 'no I'm not taking it'.

If I don't do it then nothing gets done. Hmmmmppphhhhh

Not too much of a problem. Either individually or collectively they've chosen the rules to operate by, so therefore they must be applied equitably. That's only fair isn't it? Next time they want to be away from work to attend to personal business during normal contracted hours well, surely, the response must include the question as to whether they enjoy sex and travel :!:

If I recall, aren’t you the boss?

Delegation is a sign of a good leader or put another way, you don’t keep a dog and bark yourself ;)

Why not draw up a rota or let someone go a little early to do it?

  7. presumably their contract states that they must do anything that is reasonably requested of them?

Yes but try telling them that. I've complained and there is some evidence of movement. One of the team has started removing the cardboard, what they're doing with it well I D/K yet. We shall see :D

Not unreasonable at all IMO - when I had a boss I'd do all kinds of favours for him, driving him to LAX, looking after his house etc. - and though I rarely took him up on it, he always offered similar help in return
    ......your staff lack character, Ed.

  10. You after a job? Maybe post your cv! Heehee

On a more serious note, taking care of our children's planet is everyone's responsibility. It's nice to see businesses with the same view.
+1 for a rota/delegation if you're the boss. But maybe not such a good idea to tell your boss to take out the trash/rubbish. Always good if there's some incentive. But sometimes only motivation that works is avoidance of threat.

Taking care of our planet is more to do with a feel good factor than actually achieving anything.
The efforts that most European countries go to are vastly outweighed by Africa, Middle East, India and even USA.

What's the point of a country being efficient and cutting its emissions only for a rich nation to come along and buy its surplus!

Anyway, back to the thread - as the boss you should be tasking not hinting that the bin needs emptying.

Surely as a good solicitor you should be able to argue the point that it would be in their best interest to be doing the recycling ! Failing that put it in their way so they get sick of tripping over it & i bet then it will get taken away! lol

Heard in my office today. "Can somebody open the door please?" Response 'I don't know how to do it' I kid you not.

I think that's your solution there mate. Draw up a rota and let the designated person leave half an hour early so they are doing the recycling in company time. No comebacks then is there?!

If only it were true, we have had a terrible 18 months. Nobody is buying or selling businesses - and that's where I make money.
