Now I am not sure if I am making this up, but I am sure I have seen 675's that don't have the rad fan any more. So why would someone get rid of it? I am not sure mine is working properly anyway, so rather than try to replace it can I just remove it? After a session I come in and I can't hear the fan coming on, however if I run a fan test through tuneecu, it runs ok.
It's removed from track bikes to save weight, the thinking is that the bike will always be moving forward not standing in traffic, so the fan becomes redundant. I believe that the fan can be set to kick in earlier via the ECU if need be
It doesn't need to come one after the bike has finished a session then? I thought I read somewhere about leaving the bike electrics switched on to allow the fan to continue to run. Not sure if this was for a 675 or some other bike though
It doesn't need to, it depends on how hot your bike runs I think. On my D675, sometimes the fan come on when I trundle back down the pit lane to the garages. I normally park it then switch off, the fan shuts down after a short while, I don't leave the electrics on.
My bike is the old Haribo Starmix bike, and they kept the fan on. They actually re-programmed the ECU so it comes on at 80 odd degrees rather than the 100 and odd degrees as standard. The engine develops maximum power at a certain temperature, hence why they changed the temperature it comes on at.
My advice would be to keep it and look Into to why it's not working. I mean the weight saving of a fan is nothing and at least you won't have to worry about it over heating
I haven't got one, I just watch my temp and have my bike switched off a lot of the time whilst others are sitting in the pit lane revving.
I didn't have one on my old R6 just had to be careful when moving around the pits but, never caused me any trouble. The only time it got a bit hot was in Spain waiting on the grid for a fun race. I would probably rather have one though given the choice.
The same people who remove their rear brake fluid resivoir and put abit of thick piping on to act as a resivoir instead of the fluid pot Its true lol
I used to have the HRC one fitted to my trackbike, but it mustnt have been tight enough to the master cylinder, as some drips came out onto my swing arm during a trackday So i just took it off and put the original pot back on (i should have just tightened the jubilee clip really lol) And hey presto guess what, my lap times have dropped! I might have to refit the resivoir tube again this year as I've put some winter weight on LOL!!
