anyone got one im thinking about buying one for work. anything to look out for? anyone no the mpg? tddi or tdci? any advise will be appreciated.
My TD buddy has one Wilson, he's had vans for years and he isn't very impressed with it. I'm not sure which model he has tbh (TDci I think), but from my perspective as a passenger and occaisional driver, it feels a bit tinny without the solidity you get from some other vans. It's fairly noisy at speed and the passenger seat is uncomfortable over any distance. However, he hasn't had any major mechanical failures over the life of the vehicle bar an alternator iirc. I'll have a chat with him and get a bit more info if you want Wilson.
I drive one for the firm I work for, I had a Citroen Berlingo before it and far prefer the Connect and elected to keep it when offered a newer Berlingo was offered to me. Driving position is great, a bit higher than most vans for a good view of the road. All road visibility is helped by the large wing mirrors which have really useful concave mini mirrors for really good views of blindspots. I've never been disappointed by the room in the back, far better than other vans I've used a such as the aforementioned Berlingo, an Astra and a Combo. To me it feels large and solid and the only downside is it does appear a bit heavier on the diesel. I can't put a figure on it as I don't pay for my diesel I've just noticed I fill up a bit more often than my old Berlingo.
The van I drive was an ex rental van so has nearly 160k on it and it's engine is a little noisy sometimes but it goes like stink down the motorway and hasn't let me down
could you do my a favour and take a note next time you fill up and let me no how much you put in and how long it last ish, would be great if you could i was the same use to have a transit for company i worked for never look at prices or how many miles i got as i didnt pay. got to take all in account now it my business lol on the other side it has to be better than my land rover disco td5 auto that costs about £120 to fill from when light comes on and get 380miles if i drive it really nice ps this is up for sale £3300 anyone
We took a 09 VW T30 donwn to Reading for a fortnight £106 to fill up full of gear fuel light came on 15 miles from work and sure it read 620 miles , there again i was knackered from being up 26 hrs so the milage could be wrong but a stonking little van . Quiet load`s of room for gear would love one but to pricey..
Right, my mate's Connect is a TDci 1.9 turbo diesel short wheelbase, I've had a word with him about this and he made the following comments. Against. 1, He wouldn't buy another one - even if it was with someone else's money. 2, Poor build quality with all panels having a slight warp or bend to them from new. (He is a perfectionist and a fussy sod though) 3, The fuel consumption is high at approx 28mpg, although he was told it would do 36mpg when he bought it. However, he is a thrasher of engines and redlines it through every gear he uses, so I'm not really surprised. For. 1, Engine/gearbox has had years of abuse and is still going, and doesn't use any oil. 2, Loads of room even though it's a short wheelbase version. 3, Passenger seat folds flat to allow long items in van. 4, Has never broken down, or had a major failure, (only alternator as per my other post). Hope that helps Wilson. Cheers - DG.
Forgot to make a note of the mileage when i put £30 in the other day, it wouldn't really be representative of what it can do as I do lots of small hops across town.
Tbh in looking for the worst mpg. With the disco doing around 18-24 apart from on a run which i never do its good then. On the plus side if you tow all day long fuel doesn't change and pulls like a train. Sent from my iPhone
I was quite surprised by the results I got from my van today, I put in £30 which is roughly half a tank in the connect, did just under 170 miles with mainly around town driving, hardly any dual carriageway and no motorway runs and got around 35-36 mpg. My van has done nearly 145k and the guys on site says it sounds like a bag of spanners when it starts up.
