My brother s a surgeon. he was recounting to lucky and me lots of motorbiking mishaps.....pretty grim to be honest. He was trained by the registrar that did barry sheene s legs after his big crash. Apparently the big groups he sees Youngsters coming off scooters no decent protection. With obvious outcomes. 40 something year old family men who go and buy superbikes only go out in dry warm weather and ride infrequently. The results arent great for those. Oh generally they ride in groups. This was just anecdotal. However the biggest cause are cars pulling out on junctions. "I just didnt see him..." Its not an accurate study plus it was after some very nice red wine and lots of beer. Anyone comes off at cadwell theres a good chance he ll be dealing with you....but thatd be if it's very serious. Hopefully know one will need his services.
Yep...its a sad but true statistic. Glad youre okish. So many dont win or even draw that battle of hitting a car pulling out on them.
i was riding about 26 years before i had my first off so it don't mean nothing you could fall in your first day of riding or not fall until you last day of riding who knows it might be fate or it could be skill or lack of skill but time andmileagee certainly have nothing to do with it
Yeah I do feel quite lucky to be fair and I dare bet what he says will be better than any survey, well for his area anyway.
Oh dont be a pillion there s even a common specific injury to them where they come off and fracture the bone at the knee joint where they land in a kneeling position. Requires a rod screwed through bone...they dont bother with general anaesthetic... ...I started feeling a bit bilious at that point. The points I learned were. Dont ride scooters, ride lots so youre not the infrequent sunday fair weather rider and dont be a pillion.
Arm stabilisation after being t-boned at a junction ohh.... And she drove off, Then this year a bin lorry pulled out with no indication and I broke my collar bone and fingers on my left side!!!! Iv been riding in all weathers since I was 17 and now am 33.... It don't matter how good you ride as all it takes is one mistake or one idiot to ruin your pride and joy :-( and your body lol
Interesting observations 23. Fwiw in every single one of my spills (and there have been a good many over the years ) I can retrospectively look back and clearly how I could have avoided them. That includes all those cases where an errant cager was the primary cause. As I "mature" my risk taking has not really reduced as much as some may expect, however my ability to predict risk has increased substantially (even since I was 33 ) Now he sounds like a really useful brother to have 23.
Never had a off thanks god, touch wood I don't Hubby though spent 3 weeks in a coma, and has a rather strange looking mashed up chest with deep holes in it where his breast bone should be, and massive scars across it, and is full of metal Oh and take a guess why...?? Yet another blind tin top pulling out in front of him. Another wee insight - my mate is a fireman and has cleaned up many a bike accident. He persuaded me to buy a £400 Hit Air vest. The exploding vest that support your neck and spine. Due to the fact alot of injuries they find with bikers are spinal and where the person has not died of course but just injured, where they have had a vest or air jacket on he has not seen a biker with a spinal or neck injury. So he talked me into getting one, selling it to me ok it might not save your life but a large chance it might keep you out of a wheel chair So yeah £400 a lot but hey can you put a price on being saved from a wheel chair .??
Would I be right is guessing your brother isn't a biker? On another angle, I live in county with over a dozen race track (Bike, MotoX, go karts etc) and dozens upon dozen of stables. Local A&E have far more horse related injuries than anything else, no other sport comes close...
The HitAir is used in both motorsports and equestrian Exactly the same vest just a slightly difo length lanyard. I use mine in both bike and horse http://www.thebikerstore.co.uk/products ... -Vest.html I do believe you can buy them built into biker jackets for as little as £200
I have to agree with this, having just got back on my horse after 3.5 months recovering from prolapsed discs in my back, hip muscle and tendons ripped away from hip bone, nerve damage after being bucked off my horse, they thought I'd smashed my pelvis and back , - air vest saved me again. 18 months ago I took a fall, my leg was crushed, I got compartment syndrom and ended up with this Hope your not eating your dinner lol That's the leg black because its dead , I thought I was going to lose my lower leg They cut it away and skin grafted over the top. I was off for 3 months recovering 8 months before that I did this, being thrown Finger was smashed to bits, a bag of bones the hospital said, hand bones were all broken So I'd 110% agree horses cause loads of injuries, I've broken more bones , spents weeks in hospital coz of horses over the years Yet I've ridden bikes since a kid and never had bad injuries even from dirt biking
There was a stand at cali superbike (css) school at silverstone. We were wondering which was better the neck brace thing or these. The one for motorbikes deploys faster with a different lanyard and quicker airbottle. They do seem a good idea. The dainesse air suit seems great but £2.5k. Strangely my brother says he sees far less spinal injuries than would be thought. If your injuries are that serious youre probably dead at scene. So he doesnt get to deal with them.
That kit looks v interesting, shame I can't afford it, but I'm too slow to do too much damage ... I always ride with a chest and back protector.
There is no different in the vest at all, I spoke with HitAir before buying one, its the same vest just a different lanyard. I wonder if you mean the 2point air vest which is a horse riding one. I have both lanyards and the only difference is the motorbike one is a few inch longer apart from that they look exactly the same. HitAir just promote them more towards equestrian as its a far bigger sport in the UK and much more horse riders wear them v motorcyclists. I bought mine from them direct as needed both lanyards , that's how I know this.
Nope he s not he bought a 125 trails bike way back when until some scroat stole it and the wrapped himself around a boro taxi. Lost his spleen in the process. My brother ethically resisted the urge to pay him a visit on his ward rounds. Yep my whole female side of my family are horse obsessed. Point to pointers and hunts and shows etc. Seems very dangerous to me. Any children of mine will be pointed in the direction of motorbikes and away from horse world.
