hi all, went for a ride cca 20 miles non stop on warm day, stopped in rykass cafe and bike started leaking badly from cooler tank. Once she cooled down, leaking stopped ... I went for a breakfast but when I got back and started her up she started leaking again. Barely made it home and all cooler was gone when i parked in my garage. Leaking occures only when warm and stationary. Not when riding. My mechanic is 10 mins away so I have filled the cooler tank again and went to see him. Barely made it as engine overheating sign was flashing, fan was on and temperature was on max. Leaked all out straight after stopping.
    Any ideas?

  2. Check the seal on the radiator cap

Isent there a coolant hose that runs through the front sprocket guard that has to be in the right slot or it can be cut by the chain

that as well might be it ... would the engine overheat then so quickly if this was the case?

    Thermostat, probably.

It's a known problem....well, one that you know about now, that's for sure.

Hope you get it sorted quickly.

i'd try draining and refilling the whole cooling system before u buy any parts. Worth a flush through once it's empty too. Make sure you get all the air out the system following the usual procedure in the service manual. This kind of thing easily happens if the system has air in it.

If the problem's still there once all the air's out try one of the solutions one of the other fellas posted earlier.

Had the reservoir cap blown off or was it just leaking from the overflow pipe?

If the problem persists once all the air's out etc try a new rad cap as that's the easiest and cheapest next port of call.

Pop the rad cap off before you drain system and see where the coolant level is as a point of reference

that hose through the sprocket cover is the coolant over flow hose
+ 1 on checking the oil level as bigmac says. the heat exchanger just seaps heat into the coolant with the engine off

my mechanic has removed the thermostat [apparently i dont need it as i ride like a baby n warm my bike for 5 minutes before ride out anyway] ... testing it tomorrow but apparently it is a common problem with 675. fingers crossed

  16. I've never heard of the thermostat being a common issue, did he give you the thermostat? Becuase they are easy to test, just drop them into boiling water and see if they move.

he tested it and said it was sticky and was working like 50% ... hes a friend of a friend so shouldnt be playing me ... she was overheating and got up to hig temperature in like 2 minutes of just standing with engine running ... that water leak was caused by faulty pipe as when they were putting back the fairings and cover for sprocket, they have squeezed the pipe and it broke
    hopefully all is good now
will cost me like £200 in labour tho

  18. Glad your bike is working again, but someone damaged your bike and you have to pay them £200 in labour? Sounds like a bad deal to me. If the coolant leaked onto your rear tyre you'd be on the floor too. I'd be having a word.
