Has anyone had any actual experience with Shoei's new light reactive pin lock inserts?

I need a new tinted visor and wanted one with a pin lock insert. I was shown a new product which apparently was only released 3 weeks ago due to development issues. Shoei had apparently had this light reactive pin lock insert idea for over 7 years but it did not change from dark to clear quick enough making tunnels and such like dangerous.

It costs approximately £44 but would give me a clear visor that tints when the sun shines and goes clear again when it is not.

Ip have very sensitive eyes and cannot ride in sunlight without a tinted visor. I just want to make sure this product actually works as good as a tinted visor in the sun light.

  2. i looked at this in j+s £42 took it outside in the pack ,pulled it half way out then went back in and took it out completley and one half was really dark ,however i had thought about the tunnel thing too ,the add says it reacts in seconds which doesnt seem too quick ?but im gonna get one anyway

I have the pinlock unit. It's called the Protectint. It's £45 had it a few months. It goes from clear to a dark smoke. Works brilliantly as it should for the price. Been out in sun cloud and it works do well that I've stopped paying any attention to it. Did some track days too. Very good.

Look on you tube for demo.

There is an older model that went from clear to blue. Mine is the new one. As I say clear to dark tint.

I have one, I replaced a light smoke one, which I think is the darkest 'non-track' version. I found this one more than adequate but too dark at dusk which is why I went for the light reactive version. I had high hopes for this as it says that it goes from clear to dark smoke and as a result is only suitable for the track.

After using it for a while, I don't think it actually goes that dark, probably not even as dark as the light smoke it replaced. Having said that I'm not disappointed with it, just wanted to point out it doesn't actually go as dark as advertised. If you are used to the dark visors then don't expect this to go as dark as them.

Just remembered! When I ordered mine I was told there was a delay, there imported by Pheonix they import Arai to the UK.

I was told the first batch was snapped up by the race teams, seemed reasonable. Anyway. I'm happy with mine in my Arai RX7gp

True it's not ultra dark. It eorkson uv light measurements. But don't forget the visor is in the way, extra layer.

Still, saves changing from one to another, I never give it a second thought anymore.

I love the look of my dark visor and it serves a purpose keeping the sun out of my eyes. Not sure I like the look of a tinted pin lock but it solves all the problems of staying out until dark.

I'm thinking sunny winter days with low light but riding to work and home again in the dark.

I think I'm talking myself into getting one. Just hope it does tint enough to be totally effective.

  9. well if you buy it n dont like it you can sell it to me

Well........after the sales guy at Hunts spending ages telling me everything I wanted to know and more about this light reactive pin lock visor, it finally turns out I can't get one yet.

They are still waiting for the CX1V (Shoei XR1000) version to be released. They only have the CW (Shoei XR1100) version in stock.

To be honest, i think it was a sign. I bought myself a Shoei tuned visor with a pin lock instead and I love it. So much better than me non Shoei aftermarket one I've been using all this time. Plus this has the pin lock insert which my other did not.

Yes it's illegal and yes i will have to carry a spare at night but hey, who cares. It just looks much netter in my opinion!

Plus, I treated myself to new cheek pads. Got £20 off as they have an offer this month for orders/sales over £50 too. So £40 for everything. Happy days!

  13. Cool I have the xr1100 so might be able to get 1 of those :)

  14. yes theyre in stock at j+s northwich also on ebay but a little pricey
