Evening all, New to the site. Went to take my bike out today but having some serious problems. It has a datatool red s4 alarm fitted (there's the problem) it's drawing 1.1A and the trickle charger says the battery is getting 0.81A @ 13.4V. I went into the garage today and the screen on the optima the read 14.4V and 0.00A. Went to start the bike and loads of relays clicking away fuel pump engages starts but then cuts out after about 40secs. My thoughts are the alarm is killing the battery and the rectifier isn't charging the battery quick enough and therefore cutting the engine it then won't start again. It has two months left on the warranty so hopefully getting it back to Triumph this week. Where can I get a blanking plug for this piece of s*** alarm. TIA
Welcome aboard, Nice looking bike. The alarm can be troublesome, it's best practice to leave it on a charger when not in use as I'm sure you do. Your dealer should have spare blanking plugs lying around or they could knock one up. If you could get hold of a plug housing then it's just 2 shorting links fitted into it.
Certainly something wrong with a 1.1A draw being taken when your bike is left off. That's probably worse than leaving the parking lights on. I'm still surprised that your optimate can't keep up with it though. Fwiw I wouldn't be too quick to tell the dealer what the solution is, just tell them the symptoms and get them to fix it properly if it's in warranty. Getting an alarm removed under warranty would not be a fix IMO.
On the plus side it looks like youve got a well trained lacky to clean your bike for you Welcome along hope you get it fixed easy i hated that bloody alarm with a passion
Welcome to our friendly little forum EOD1. Fwiw I have a 2006 that has the OEM Datatool alarm on it, and at close to 30k miles it has never given a dot of trouble in it's life. Datatool alarms have a 3yr warranty too...
