Recently I have had a TOR map loaded and was advised that one of my throttle bodies is out of balance, running at 140 instead of 170 like the others. A day or two later I started the bike from cold and although it sparked and tried to turn over, it just stopped. Then the clocks refreshed again as though I just turned the key and I tried maybe four times and the same thing happened. The temp gauge was at full bars after each failed attempt before the clocks reset a second later. This happens now frequently on cold starts. Any ideas what the cause is?
Try a loose battery terminal or a loose cable to the engine/starter. Although there's a throttle body out, it's unlikely to re-boot the ecu as you describe, at worst it will register an error code and put the dtc light on. Loose cable could do as you describe.
It's weird that it only happens on cold starts. I found out from the dealer that the bodies were out after they loaded the TOR. I figured I'd fix that on my major 1200 service. Nothing seems loose as far as I know, but it only happens on cold starts so it's hard to tell.
