Interesting thread this as I'm considering fitting on oiler to mine. Are they really worth it or are they as some have said - just a gimmick?

Anyone got pics of one fitted to a 'tona?

  4. from Scottoiler's site: (no pics of mine on me at the moment)

    Hope that helps!

Gimmick vs not? - Depends on how often you regularly clean & re-lube your chain.
Have to admit I'm lazy & this seems to do a good job for me.
If you normally clean&lube every week or after every ride, then maybe not that much benefit.
So, as with most things, it's a personal choice & viewpoint.

Cheers for that mate - surely there must be a better way of attaching the tube to the swingarm. Plastic cable ties? hmmm, still undecided.

    Thanks for the links

  6. got one fitted to mine, seems to work ok, im a lazy sod and cant be arsed with all this lubing stuff, peice of p155 to fit too...its worth going for the duel injector though it is 17 quid..

Very pleased with my Scottie. The chain looks so much better, I always used to use far too much lube so got fling al over the back of the bike, which got coated in road filth, so the back end really was disgusting.

As to pics, you have to accept that this was after a particularly mucky winter ride. You can see here where I've got the reservoir. I don't have any pics of the tube run, it's not a desperately interesting shot

Ed, the oiler is great and saves loads of work, bought one for No1 son a while back for his SV. :D

Seems to me what you really need is a "Scott-Washer" that cleans as you ride!

Perhaps that where my fortune lays.....

  10. I had one on my Daytona 600. It made one hell of a mess, then I found the adjusted and turned it down  I havent fitted it to the 675 because A, It makes a mess B, looks crap C, Ment I didnt look at the back of the bike as often as I should D, cost alot E, Looks crap F, Still looks crap.
Since getting the 675 I have checked the rear wheel, tyre, sproket and chain more often and even found a nail in the tyre which I might not have found before.

PS I have a plus point: Good for long distance as you dont have to carry chain lube.

    PPS Looks crap

A - Depends on how well they are fitted
B - Surely rear wheel, chain and sprocket checks should be a regular thing anyway, not just when your lubing the chain
C - Agree with you at the end - Not having to carry chain lube is a big bonus

  12. Fair one. I glued the pipe under the swing arm and only had a small bit of pipe on view. I got lazy and didnt check as often as I should have, but do oil the chain before I ride every time and check at the same time. That was defiantly because of the scottoiler (and me)

Not sure how mine's going to look as the dealer is fitting it as part of the deal before I pick the bike up. He assures me that they will do a good and clean job.....fingers crossed!!

I thought the Brit Mil had pulled out of Iraq now C-J?

Got another query/problem so reviving the thread again......

How the hell do you refill the reservoir whilst it is still on your bike!!!??? I have followed the instructions where it says keep the bottle upright and squeeze etc etc but I just seem to be pushing air into the system and the oil isn't reaching the reservoir from the bottle!!

Spent another half hour trying to refill again last night and in the end just threw my toys in the corner as I was just making a mess!! :x

Any tips would be much appreciated.

  15. If you want to top it up quicker then remove the rubber connector (with tube) completely from the reservoir, and put the nozzle from the refill bottle into the vacant hole (but don't block any air escaping) and squeeze...release...and sqeeze...

I have a feeling that CJ will say I told you so, but I think I'm gonna take my oiler off. I cleaned the bike yesterday and rode just 15 miles today after which, the back of the bike was covered in oil. Underside of the exhaust, fairing, rear wheel and worst of all, on the left side of the tyre!!!!!

It's on the lowest setting so I can't turn it down anymore. Is it easy enough to take off or do you need to get it done at a garage? I just don't want to knacker the vacuum

Stick with it. The flow rate on mine is now right and I haven't had any more fling. The chain looks beter than ever it did when I was using manual chain lube and the chain now seems not to need adjusting - I check it every so often and it never seems to need any work. The back of the bike still has a fair amount of oil on it but that's going this weekend, I'm attacking it with some MucOff and sudsy water :D
