Hi all. Need some new tyres so any recommendations for what to get? Mainly dry road riding but really want something that will help with confidence on track. I only run in novice and lost a lot of confidence after my off last year so need to build back up. Had pirelli supercorsa's on as stock then changed to rosso 2's last year. Probably cos of the off I've lost confidence in the rossos, especially the front. Heard good things about the M7RR but open to recommendations from everyone. Thanks
Michelin Power RS have just been released. Would say there won't be much in between M7RR's, Rosso III's and RS except the RS is newer then both
M7RRs are great on the road or on the track. I ran them for a couple of years on my zx6r with no issues at all, and they're very stable in the wet should you get caught in the rain. Go for it.
I agree with kwacky, go for m7rr. I used them for a bunch of track days, wet and dry, always fine and spot on for the road
Continental Race (Or Sport) Attacks depending on just track or track and road use. Great tyres and good bit cheaper than the Pirelli's.
Bridgestone s20 evo brilliant road tyres I will be using these on a Europe road trip in may like I have the last two years they cope with anything, done two road bike only days at snetterton no problems high end of inters.
Thanks for all the feedback and recommendations guys. Keep them coming. I'll have a good shop around and look at reviews online. Warm fussy community feeling
I wouldn't get the S20 evos as they have been replaced by the S21 now. I was happy enough with the S21, the rear lasted 6 trackdays from new, but Treesr spun it up so wasn't so happy with it (no rain experience). (I still think M7RR's are better) I have heard (like @W_esty above) that the new Michelin RS will be better than the M7RRs. How many miles are you going to do? the Roadtec 01 are a fantastic road tyre and perfectly capable on track.
The roadtec 01's are very confidence inspiring because they have a very flat profile, unlike the Pirelli Road 4 or supercorsas which are both very pointy and tip in a lot. The flat profile also means that when they wear down it doesn't make such a difference
I'll likely do 3-5000 miles in a year. Had 2 track days last year but hoping for more this year. I missed a couple of dates I wanted to do cos of the off and weather (forum td).
Roadtec 01's probably wasted on you then (would last 4 years) M7RR would be great or if you wanted the latest, greatest new thing then Michelin RS
I always liked the Rosso 2 now been replaced with the 3, the Bridgestone T30 is good if it's good enough for Ron Haslem trackday school it should be good enough for road and track
I like Dunlop Sportsmart 2's and they now have one called the 'sportsmart max'. They are a flatter profile on the front so although the steering feels marginally heavier it gave me more confidence on initial roll into the corner from upright. The pirellis can kinda fall in a bit because they have quite a steep profile, both are great but perhaps Dunlops would give more confidence
I have Dunlop Sportsmart 2's on my bike and have been very pleased with them. I haven't done any track days on them and I'm certainly not the fastest rider on the road, but they seem to perform well and I haven't had any scary moments due to lack of grip.
To be fair it was rider error that led to me losing the back end.. rooky mistake.. too much wrist, too much lean.. I've used the s21s on my last 5 or 6 track days/ weekends and been very happy with them. Fwiw I like a round profile, makes the bike even tippier .. Square tyres are for 4 wheels and tourers only! But tyres move on so quickly. A good motorcycle tyre shop will be able to walk you round his stock and explain the benefits of all the tyres, after establishing what you ride, and how you ride. We are really lucky and have GTC in Chilworth, Surrey. James is really knowledgeable, rides an R1 and will always give you good advice. I use pr3s on the road and love them.
I was previously a Pilot Road fan for all year/all weather commuting, going through 4 sets. I didn't think i would find anything better, until i tried the Roadtec 01's. They are another step up. Not sure on how many miles i will get yet but the wet grip is brilliant. I had M7RR on track my Daytona all last year, and had a set on my Sprint for a very wet German tour last year and they did everything i needed, but those Roadtecs? wow.
